How Economic Inequality Harms Societies (Video)

Via TED Talks:

We feel instinctively that societies with huge income gaps are somehow going wrong. Richard Wilkinson charts the hard data on economic inequality, and shows what gets worse when rich and poor are too far apart: real effects on health, lifespan, even such basic values as trust.

    Here’s a thought, most
everyday humans are tied into any number of systems at any one
    time..e.g (family, work, consuming e.t.c.)

    All of these systems
are related to our economic and social structure and

    progression.

    So everyday people have
no time to offer to the cause, but they like all of us have power no
matter how little it all builds up.

    The idea is this
construct a widely circulated e-leaflet stating this message.

    What we can do
    together!

    We the Human collective
society understand that the general public at large has many
important responsibilities such as family, work, bills e.t.c. and are
therefore unable to camp out and protest.

    However we can still
use all our collective power to send bad business, corporations,
financial institutions and leaders a clear message of what we expect
    from them.

    We shall organise a two
week campaign whereupon as a consuming society we can speak with our
    pockets.

On each day of the week
an unpopular economic giant will be be targeted and as a
consuming society we can refuse to trade with them, all together all
    day long.

    For an example:

    No media Monday – don’t
download any i-tunes, withdraw your purchasing power from media
    giants we are unhappy with.

    No news corporations on
    Tuesday- (Don;t buy your newspaper, don’t download any e-news, don’t;
    watch any news.

    No banking on Wednesday
    – only make cash transactions all day long no credit/debit card use,
everyone who are able can transfer a £1 from their bank account to
    their paypal account.

    No Supermarket Saturday
    – Only purchase local goods from local shops empowering the small
    business.

    No Fuel Friday – No
one fill up on a Friday and punish the energy companies

    Switch off Sunday –
turn off your electrics/gas for the day or minimise it’s use where
    possible.

    This idea is in it’s
early stages, but it is the small things we can all do together that
make a big statement. It is this statement that the general public
who feel their little time and heavy responsibility restricts them
    helping need to hear.

    Empowering us all with
    achievable objectives as a collective

    If it were to work
correctly then clear messages would be heard globally and large
economic entities would feel forever under the watchful eye of the
    purchasing society.

    Without the public as
whole consuming and trading there is no economic system.

    We don’t have to stop
consuming, we just need to exercise the power it gives us as a
    society as a whole.

    I hope someone will
take this idea and help it evolve into what it could be.

    Many thanks for taking
    the time to read.

    If you be offended then
look away, if you be interested then breathe life into the idea and
    help it on towards physicality.

    What
we conceive in our mind we create in our world.

Obama should take a long hard look at the Nordic counties. And no, we are not communists :)
