Where’s the Outrage? Secret Panel Can Put Americans on ‘Kill List’

Kill BillFunny, how Obama supporters aren’t going batshit over this when this is the very sort of thing that got them worked up during the Bush administration … Mark Hosenball reported in Reuters:

American militants like Anwar al-Awlaki are placed on a kill or capture list by a secretive panel of senior government officials, which then informs the president of its decisions, according to officials.

There is no public record of the operations or decisions of the panel, which is a subset of the White House’s National Security Council, several current and former officials said. Neither is there any law establishing its existence or setting out the rules by which it is supposed to operate.

The panel was behind the decision to add Awlaki, a U.S.-born militant preacher with alleged al Qaeda connections, to the target list. He was killed by a CIA drone strike in Yemen late last month.

The role of the president in ordering or ratifying a decision to target a citizen is fuzzy. White House spokesman Tommy Vietor declined to discuss anything about the process.

If this panel does exist then there is no reason for the miranda rights, or innocent until proven guilty. So how about it…Don’t piss me off, because I will be your judge and jury. Guaranteed you WILL lose.     ….      You cannot make rules and bend them when you see fit.

Umm…There’s alot of Obama supporters that ARE going apeshit over this. This is the kind of bullshit that’s going to lose him the election. I voted for Obama the first time around, secure in the knowledge that he’d be better than Bush, and a damn sight better than Palin/McCain. After seeing his performance on this and other issues, I’m disappointed, and I cannot in good conscience vote for him again.

    Thank you!!!

  14. This will end when a group of citizens gets together and draws up their own target list.

Won’t take too many high profile “Targeted Terminations” before they’ll be rolling this whole idea back.

A couple of decades of public complacency has given the elites a (false) feeling of security. That will have to be shattered.

They’re not fools though. There’s probably a reason they’re taking a good hard look at the trained killers being rotated home from these wars of empire we’re fighting.

Whether it’s the Supreme Tribunal of Venice or the Star Chamber of England, this kind of activity seems to perpetually arise.

It’ll be interesting to see how it stands up to modern technology.

  16. This was already done by Shrub, and in Yeman too, I think.

I bitched about it then too.

  23. Where’s the outrage; its coming to a street near you.

Before there was Der Homeland of the Secure, there was the United States of America and it had a Bill of Rights. This is what Americans used to fight and die for; now they die for Halliburton’s balance sheet.

    Fifth Amendment
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, … nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

    Sixth Amendment
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed… and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

Why do governments think its ok to take money from the people and then do secret hidden things with it behind their backs? Its time for the apes to rise, or any other animal for that matter, because we obviously don’t know what we are doing. Maybe squirrels can teach us how to live.

  34. The Nazis won WW2, just as the terrorist’s accomplished their mission…it’s a shame that all those good Americans died for nothing. We ended up with the same result, a fascist dictatorship where the rule of law and moral responsibility are only for the sheep while the slave-masters live it up. Hope you like living in the USSA.
