Spy Drone Used on Police at Protests in Poland

Disinfo.com Note: Some commenters have stated this is not Occupy-related, when you have a movement without hierarchy this can be expected to happen. Disinformation is more concerned about the counter-tech to observe activism, so that is why we posted this story. Spencer Ackerman reports at Wired’s Danger Room:

The proliferation of drones throughout the military — and into civilian law enforcement — can make it feel like we’re living in an airborne panopticon. But flying robots are agnostic about who they train their gaze upon, and can spy on cops as easily as they can spy on civilians.

In the video above, protesters in Warsaw got a drone’s eye view of a phalanx of police in riot gear during a heated Saturday demonstration. The drone — spotted by Wired editor-in-chief and drone-builder Chris Anderson — was a tiny Polish RoboKopter equipped with a videocamera.

  1. actually it was not Occupy Warsaw… it was during Independence Day (11th Nov) and what you see are football hooligans clashing with the riot cops. Police were separating nationalists from the countermanifestation of Leftists

  3. That’s not Occupy Warsaw; as the article you link to clearly states it’s a demonstration last Saturday by anti-fascists met by police and ultra-nationalists.

  5. Arduino for the win!

I love how this forward march of technology is giving more and more power to individuals.

It won’t be long and we’ll have to respect everyone’s rights or face their tech facilitated wrath.  Much better than the days when you could use and abuse any group numerically smaller than you, with impunity.

I dunno, that seems kind of like trading one hell for another, and to me would seem to lead to incredibly isolated lives. Civil society out of fear rather than respect.

  7. Most people do not realize that there is a huge RC Car and airplane society in the U.S.  Equivalent or better drones can be constructed by a saavy RC Person.  The average person does not even know that some RC cars can move as fast as 35 -40 mph if not faster. Miniaturized circuitry and advances in cameras and most importantly Lithium battery technology have made it possible.

  8. Why that thing has microphones??? The only thing i can hear is this annoying buzz sound!!

  13. Only those who lacked respect would need have any fear.

    Besides, we’re 90% there already.

  14. It is a fake! It was not a protest! We
have celabrated our Independence Day! I was there, in Warsaw and I
    saw everything.

In Poland patriots, people who love
Poland are discriminated. (It is a New World Order policy). Thats why
television say that was a protest, but it’s not true.

See this, you don’t find this in a tv:

    Mothers with small childrens, AK
veterans [AK – Home Army – that is the name of polish forces (we
had a few armys!) (400000 soldiers) fighting with Germans and soviets
in World War II], beautiful girls, professors, many many people…

  16. That’s a fucking RC helicopter piloted by a civilian wanting to fill the crowd.

  19. Electric is most certainly the most popular choice for beginning RC hobbyists. The electric RC plane is quieter and cleaner and it is also cheaper. Plus an electric RC airplane can be flown in most public spaces, wheras a gas powered plane needs to be flown at an RC club field or on private ground.

  20. We’ll see if you say the same thing when one is used to spy on YOU.

    • I think you must have missed the gist of what I was saying.

I’m not for this sort of spying in general, but I’m happy that if the government has it then individual people also have it.

      Basic Reciprocity.

The best countermeasure I’ve arrived at for these is a well placed shotgun blast.

Any suggestions as to the best way to take these or the government versions down?
