The Neuroscience of Rick Perry’s ‘Brain Freeze’

Rick PerryI think the Washington Post is being too kind. As Joel Achenbach reports:

It was the Hoover Dam of mental blocks. Pundits referred to it as a “brain freeze” or a “gaffe.” In Internet parlance, it was an “epic FAIL.” But to neuroscientists, what happened to Texas Gov. Rick Perry Wednesday night looked like something very ordinary, exacerbated by stress: a “retrieval failure.”

It happens more often as we age. But the brain scientists say it shouldn’t be seen as evidence of an intellectual deficit or some medical problem. Instead, they say, retrieval failures offer a glimpse into how the brain does and doesn’t work, not just in the skulls of presidential candidates but for everyone else, too.

It’s impossible to know what exactly was happening inside Perry’s head at the Republican presidential debate, and the pundit class will continue to debate whether it was a neurological hiccup or a telling sign of a candidate who doesn’t know his own policies. What’s certain is that, at a crucial moment, on stage, live on national television, Perry could not remember the name of one of the federal agencies he would like to abolish.

In Rick Perry’s case I think it has more to do with the fact that he’s just a blooming fucking idiot than “retrieval failure“. Perhaps it was a failure to get enough oxygen during birth.

Even with this screw up Dick Perry…I mean Richard Perry, is still in line to be the next president.   All the super assholes in the corporate regime love him.  Last time I checked they seemed to control the United States for the most part.  Most importantly he plays the ‘game’ to perfection.  As big of a fuck up as I think he is.  I hate to say it.  The man got this far, it wouldn’t surprise me if he took the whole thing. Plus the Modus Operandi for the United States seems place total incompetence within positions of power

Side Note: Most likely his VP will be a hell of a lot smarter than him and will team up with everybody’s favorite CIA/ Schutzstaffel Operative Dick Cheney

It’s worth noting that Obama can raise an obscene amount of money, and that whomever spends the most on an election campaign traditionally wins the election.  Wasn’t there a story recently about how Obama received more money from corporate america than any other president to date?  Given how he didn’t do a goddam thing to the people responsible for the economic meltdown aside from give half of them a spot on his “economic recovery team”, why wouldn’t he be able to raise just as much?

Rex good comment. Believe it or not there is a science to screwing up.  Some individuals do it so well that they elevate it to an art form.

It’s called trying to keep your lies in order.  Takes much more mental trickery than telling the truth.

Anyone who believes the poles about how popular he is knows nothing about the inherent bias in media driven poles.  There seems to be a media blackout on Ron Paul who was crushing all these people before they realized he is actually a threat and took anything associated with him off the air.  It is a simple trick to exploit the natural human desire to go along with the crowd, make is seem as if the crowd has forgotten Ron Paul and hope people don’t vote for him.  Don’t let them fool you!

Just because Rick Perry is a corporate tool and not particularly intelligent doesn’t mean that the brain scientists are wrong in this case.  It also doesn’t change the fact that he is a corporate tool and not particularly intelligent.
