Time Magazine’s American Vs. Overseas Covers

Via Glenn Greenwald on Twitter, an illustrative comparison of the front of this week’s issue of Time Magazine in different markets. Does this say something about the U.S. media, the U.S. populace, or both? Either way, I’m not buying that stress is good for you.

    the term “Asia” is a western epistemological construct used to illustrate difference between the civilised “west” and exoticised “east”- in fact cultural and philosophical exchange has existed for thousands of years. This notion of difference is further negated by a phenemenon known as “globalisation” and the internet. Wherein the world shares (quote unquote) or has access to a global consumer culture.     I don’t think either version is worth reading anyways.  From the few TIME articles I’ve read they seem to be pretty shallow.

    Given that much of our major media is covering the protests as a debate between “Merely irritating fools or domestic terrorists?…you decide!”  it doesn’t really amaze anyone that Time of all magazines would step away from drawing undue attention to something that no self respecting corporation in the US would want to make people notice.

    I’m wondering what would happen if some of the vaunted Awakened Arabs the State Department has held up as heralds of Liberty were to come to the Home of the Free and speak in solidarity to Occupiers?  What connections would the media make then?

    I get that people hate Jews (if only because I grew up seeing it) and I’ll even concede that yes, Jews as a population in comparison to the rest of the world seem to be higher in numbers in Hollywood and the banking system.  Does this necessarily imply a conscious conspiracy where they have a “stranglehold” collectively as a religious group?  I call BS on that nonsense.
