Yes, the top 1% pay a disproportionate amount of taxes
relative to income.  But add up all the
taxes they pay, and divide by their wealth, and they pay way less than the guy
on the corner living paycheck to paycheck.

I don’t expect all comics to be liberal, but comedians like Carolla, Mencia, and MIller spew the EXACT same talking points on the same issues all the fucking time.

This doushbag is wrong on so many points and I wouldn’t know where to begin on his spun story….most 1%ers didn’t earn ANTHING, they inherited it, stole it, or a combination of both.

Speaking of Inheriting… there was once a program on Sunday nights that came on after 10pm – on KROQ in Los Angeles. It was called “Love Lines” and it was hosted by “The Poor Man”. Eventually, it became a big deal and … Adam Corolla INHERITED it.

So, yeah – a little history outs his bullshit.

it would take radical steps to dislodge the 1% from power
    like:
    stop buying their consumer crap,
learn to grow some of the food you eat,
    quit working for the Man
stuff no one really wants to do
so in a sense Adam is correct

I can appreciate your cynicism, but today, I am apparently offended by it. (Normally, I’d be right on board with you) … however, I’m sorry – I can’t buy that “self responsibility” bullshit anymore. Growing your own food requires skills – at least as much as building your own house. There’s a reason not everyone does it – it’s not because they’re “Scared”, or Lazy or “don’t want to do it” – christ, one look at Home Depot should show you the average man’s desire to “do it yourself” – it’s because they were brought up in a religious cult where you went to school and learned to read & write and the Mexicans did the hard work (including building your house). The cult taught that you work for the man, you pay your taxes and go along to get along. It teaches that you shouldn’t think to deeply, but always be focused on self – just not too focused that you realize anything really revolutionary.

The real whiners are the 1% who’ve created the Cult and now are crying like little bitches when people stand up and question it. It’s even more beautiful that, when questioned on it, they call you the whiners. It’s a play right out of the Pro-War book – If you’re against us, you’re against America! Oh the Red Herring!

So anyway – yeah – educate someone in your own Local Autonomous School – beholden to no one and able to think. Then, if they’re still not doing anything different, you can blame yourself.

      • BuzzCoastin | Dec 4, 2011 at 10:20 pm |

        > I can’t buy that “self responsibility” bullshit anymore.

No, you can’t buy it; you have to want to live it.
Some Amish & Mennonites have been doing it for centuries now.
You can find like minded people and try it yourself.

        But reforming corporate consumerism is not an option;
it has already brought the world the brink of destruction,
reforming it will only prolong the agony of its destructive force.

Oh and when he was dead to me when he left Loveline.

It stems from the chronic problem that those doing well are doing well and can not fathom why everyone else isn’t, ” I’m doing well so you must be doing something wrong!” mentality the reality is the game is skewed so soo few can do well while others get hosed, the idea that we can all be rich does not pander out, wealth is relative and money is a fixed amount so to be rich you need to have a group who are poor. So don’t piss on the poor when they are upset you are rich cause you infact robbed them the opportunity.

I hated this video. Envy never existed ? Did not Adam’s generation appear as self entitled douche bags by their own parents generation ? He says work hard so we can one day buy ourselves a rolls royce, but is this not a ostentatious ideal ? Are there not people working hard, but barley making ends meat ?

Having said that I do agree to a certain extent, with some of his more harsh views about self responsibility.

    • “There’s something that’s come up in this country, which didn’t used to exist, which is envy.”

I heard that and my brain almost stopped functioning because it was
faced with a force of such entitled ignorance that I didn’t think it
could possibly exist in the real world.

I caught a show on cable once where Corolla pretended to do some home improvement dirty fingernails type of stuff on his own house. As if he’s an everyman, blue collar working joe. He was really just goofing off and bossing around a crew of Hispanic guys while constantly getting in their way as far as I could tell. A couple of them had this look like “I’m not getting paid enough to deal with this childish prick.” The notion that he can remotely relate to the plight of real men and women is pure theatre. This new misguided screed does not surprise me in the least, although it seems like career suicide to publicly out yourself to your core audience as he just has.

    • You’re on fire with these comments. Like you’re reading my mind. Here’s something I wrote about Carolla yesterday:

I’m not sure why anyone takes Adam Carolla seriously. He hosted a piece of trash called “The Man Show” for Christ sake. Which was basically a half-hour long, slightly wittier version of a Coors Light commercial. I’ve also heard Adam Carolla joke that they “don’t even have colleges in Mexico.” Actually, he said that to when I called into Loveline years ago. Dr Drew agreed with him that I was crazy for wanting to go to a doctor in Mexico. Carolla also went off on Manny Pacquiao and Phillipinos in general.

Carolla represents the standard white American male viewpoint in moderately upgraded 2.0 version. He’s like the Jay Leno of youtube commentators. He makes the easy joke that Joe-six-pack thinks is funny. And then Joe-six-pack goes on the internet and bastardizes it so it’s even less funny (if that’s possible). What we’re left with is “Durrrrr, support the troops and kill hippies.”

    • gwen jackson | Dec 8, 2011 at 1:56 am |

Carolla’s core audience is simple-minded aging armchair quarterbacks…I wouldn’t say he’s alienating them, I’d say he’s pandering to them, and they will lap it up just like they’ve always lapped up every stupid thing this stupid ape has ever said; pandering to the lowest common denominator is, and always has been, the only schtick he’s got.
why, who did YOU think his core audience was, again?
Carolla is where Fox News Lovers go for comedy.

Carolla is completely ignorant.  The very top — not the folks who pay the 50% he’s referring to, but the SUPER-rich — pay little to no taxes at all.  Those are the folks (a fraction of the 1%) who should pay their fair share who do not.  And even if he wants to talk about that “50%”, he makes no reference to how much that 50% rakes in.  Not to mention that super-rich bracket, once again.  And the 1% and the fraction of the 1% paid around 90% of their income years ago and they still lived incredibly well.  But let’s not talk about how much of the “bottom” 50% has very little to no income, no health care, and suffers in a huge variety of ways.  This Adam Carolla needs to read Democracy For The Few by Michael Parenti.  Wealth creates poverty; so it’s not just that some folks got more cause they earned it all by themselves.  How could those who enslaved people live so extravagantly well if not for the exploitation of those they enslaved?  How could the lord live so well if not for his serfs?  The greatest source of individual wealth is INHERITANCE, not ingenuity or merit or anything like that.

Because they are flat out weak, pathetic, and have no sense of personal responsibility. But, yeah, rich people -who have been around since human culture began- are at fault.

  69. Many people that are doing well, may have worked hard for what they have.  There are many more who also work hard but are not doing well…None should feel guilty for his/her worth.. But when our elected officials, our leaders who are continually shoving shit down our throats (pizza is a vegetable…god is an old man in the sky watching your every move…) Love that pizza and go to church every sunday…I got mine and fuck the rest mentality will fuck us all!

  71. From now on when I hear the name Adam Carolla, I will think of “Ass Douche”! What a loser this guy is! Occupy and terrorism both caused by jealousy?? I once thought this idiot was funny… maybe he was and continues to be, but I will never know because I will never listen to his self entitled bullshit EVER again!  Listen to Chomsky if you want a view on politics… Listen to Carolla if you want a view on moronics!

  73. “There’s something that’s come up in this country, which didn’t used to exist, which is envy.”

I heard that and my brain almost stopped functioning because it was
faced with a force of such entitled ignorance that I didn’t think it
could possibly exist in the real world.

  74. Classy, well-reasoned response there boss.

And let’s see…”rich people -who have been around since human culture began…”

Yes, well, so have priests – that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good thing.

  75. E.g. Zach Snyder re: Alan Moore.

Can’t wait till he takes over for Glenn Beck on Fox News. He’s almost as loathsome as Sean Hannity.

I thought this was hilarious. The truth hurst if you’re offended by it

  81. He spent 10 years in the trades; a union carpenter for a decent portion of that. He’s not always correct, but there is some truth in what he speaks about.

I’d like more people in OWS to focus on the message and delivering it.

It’s not the wrongs in your life, it’s what you are doing. I support the OWS movement in the view it’s us against the continual disparity of wealth. However, I see what Carolla speaks about as two very different things – he’s a hardworking person and a comedian. Sometimes those two realities don’t result in an in-depth understanding of socio-economics.
