Post-American Iraq By The Numbers

golfAs we pull our troops out following eight years in Iraq, Barack Obama earlier this week called it a “moment of success” that came at heavy cost — “nearly 4,500 Americans made the ultimate sacrifice.” The president made no mention of the cost to Iraqis, so Juan Cole has this to add:

Population of Iraq: 30 million

Percentage of Iraqis who lived in slum conditions in 2000: 17

Percentage of Iraqis
who live in slum conditions in 2011: 50

Number of the 30 million Iraqis living below the poverty line: 7 million.

Number of Iraqis who died of violence 2003-2011: 150,000 to 400,000.

Orphans in Iraq
: 4.5 million.

Orphans living in the streets: 600,000.

Number of women, mainly widows, who are primary breadwinners in family: 2 million.

Iraqi refugees displaced by the American war to Syria: 1 million

Internally displaced persons in Iraq: 1.3 million

Proportion of displaced persons who have returned home since 2008: 1/8

Rank of Iraq on Corruption Index among 182 countries: 175

Certainly was, billions in military industrial profits and a threat to the power of Israel destroyed, mind boggling when you consider Israel invested maybe 25 million dollars in corrupting US politics over that period in order to get the US to blow 600 billion dollars around 10 billion of which went straight into Israeli coffers.
As far as Israel is concerned mission accomplished without doubt.

another tragedy is that most Iraqis believe the wee the sheeple
    approved of these atrocities
    because Amerika is a democracy
and therefore its government represents the will of the people

When you look at what corporate America did in Iraq, you should remember that it’s exactly what they’d like to do to us Americans.

I love the smell of freedom in the morning…it smells like…

…well, in this case…kind of a cross between a charnel house and an open sewer.

If they were any freer…there wouldn’t be anyone left alive to complain about it.

    • Hadrian999

it’s like the lady sang it -Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose
they are the epitome of free

And just think, in a decade or two—if complete collapse has been eluded that long—we’ll all get to experience again, because all the orphans and displaced homeless people we created will attack us in retribution.

Don’t you just love endless cycles of violence?

“Defense” (that’s how they call it).
And who pays and contributes to the war ? “we” the american people.
Stop saying that we’re not responsible, that our soldiers aren’t responsible…
