If you liked this video, I encourage you to watch the BBC documentary “The Century Of The Self”. It was originally aired as a four-part series so it is kind’a lengthy, but I assure you it is well worth the time to watch it.

It was originally aired as a four-part series so it is kind’a lengthy, but I assure you it is well worth the time to watch it. It really goes into depth explaining marketing, consumerism, and how governments have manipulated the populous using propaganda campaigns.

The Great Whore reaches into latent inhibitions
Stimuli and remediation become self-encapsulated within her succor
But for they who follow their own subliminal light
The sensorium is a nebulous region
Supposition of states occurs within realms of delirium
    State transition is discrete.
A function of equilibrium within the prevailing order
dictates coherence only when there are no internal degrees of freedom.
Attraction within shared resonant bodies cannot be uncoupled by the interference of
confining potential.  Resistance is reflection,  Cadence creates time-domain.  Stillness
an absolution- Insolvent to values undefined.
Openness to the source leads to decoherance of the super-position
Constant field strength reduces internal charge
    Higher-order Rectification to Reciprocity
    Thereto within escape
    Velocity forms inception,
    Foundations Sound
    Engendered
    Forthwith in modulation and induction
Finds minds defined not by dimension but
    by self-encryption
    intessellated soul

The Breaking Bad example is not a good one. The character in question was a really cool guy..And if anything it ads to his good nature. Asuming that Ron Paul is good..(of course)

  11. Oh no, designers secretly snuck the word ‘sex’ into a whole bunch of labels.  Obviously they’re trying to control our brains.  Or we’re just trying to apply conspiracy at anything and everything we can.  Y’all are silly.

Yeah that’s the part I don’t get. Are they trying to get us to want more sex? I mean isn’t like 90% of T.V blatantly sex anyway? lol. You can skew just about anything into a conspiracy theory these days.

  15. For those who don’t understand why it is a big deal that the word “sex” is in the advertisements I will try to break it down for you. The subconscious mind sees the word “sex” while the conscious mind sees the product. Now when you combine the two your brain will relate the product with sex, and seeing as though most people crave sex, we will in theory want the product more.

Only in a society where sex is thoroughly repressed do people make false connections with material products and the act of copulation.

    • chinagreenelvis | Dec 24, 2011 at 3:19 am |

      This doesn’t actually work.

People who insert things like “sex” into animation frames and advertising photoshop work are usually bored artists who want to see what they can get away with.

That being said, businessmen and politicians have no doubt been trying to tap into the human subconscious; it doesn’t mean it actually works. The effectiveness of subliminal advertising has been found to be negligible, meaning that you can evoke a very short-term and subtle emotional response in a person through the use of subliminal messages, but it will not cause them to behave any differently in the long-run.

Some of them will keep trying, despite this, but it’s nothing to be scared about. After all, when is the last time you felt an uncontrollable urge to go buy a particular product without being able to explain why?

I work in the advertising field and I can tell you right now that this video is being more than a little hyperbolic about the use of messaging in media. Most of these “subliminal” messaging examples are not subliminal at all. They are intentionally designed to be noticed consciously. You are SUPPOSED to look at it and say to yourself, “Hey, those bottles look like a butt.” Most of these sexually suggestive examples are not designed to effect your thoughts on the product after seeing the advertisement but rather to draw your eye to the ads to begin with. Sex and sexually suggestive scenes draw most people to look at them and in a world covered head to toe in advertising, if you can even get someone to notice your ad at all you have won half the battle. Most of the rest I can guarantee you is just bored designers trying to sneak a little fun into their work or hide an easter egg in there to point out to their friends later.
