Alan Moore Hangs Out with Masked Occupy Protesters

I appreciate the Alan Moore interview, but how “out to lunch” is this reporter to describe comics as a male-dominated readership … Not that way in 2012. Please discuss Mr. Moore and the rest:

Alan Moore is one of the (very) few famous individuals who make me proud to be human. Watching this makes me want to head on over to the library and read through his back catalog all over again.

  6. As a chick who reads graphic novels, I’d just like to say to the BBC announcer in the first 20 seconds: “Piss off.”

hear hear! it’s 2012 not 1983. girls play AND program video games, read AND write comics, and even gasp! go to comicon.

    • Actually it’s a station callede Channel 4 and not the BBC but it might as well have been for biased report that she gave.

There’s a long line of fantastic beards in Anarchist heritage.

unfortunately my chinese genes only allow for scruff not beard….

I’m trying to grow one out, but for some reason it is very slow going. You’d think, hey Scandinavian, crazy awesome viking beard, but no.
I fantasize about growing it out long and braiding it like a post apocalyptic drifter.

dude that would be sick. i’ve always wanted dreads myself, but i’m not a japanese harajuku kid (or rastafarian), so i don’t think i could quite pull them off.

          • Anarchy Pony | Jan 16, 2012 at 3:03 pm |

            Is it the apocalypse yet?
Short answer no, longer answer; kind of yeah actually. Climate change, peak various important things, increasing state and corporate power, general ecocide, dying oceans(seriously, have you read up on the state of the oceans? It makes me want to fling myself from a bluff.)
We are living in interesting and terrible times, or at least at the beginning of them. It’s like that old curse, May you live an interesting life.

And I wouldn’t dread it, I’d braid it. Vikings took very meticulous care of their beards, and I’d mohawk my hair. Like my Skyrim pure warrior character.(I run three separate characters, a pure magic Breton, pure stealth Khajiit and pure warrior Nord. Yes I have lots of extra time on my hands.)

As much as i fantasize about living a post-civilizational steam-punkish anarchist existence , i don’t know if we’d ever get there (as people), simply because the earth is (as i know you know) at a breaking point ecologically, but people seem more concerned with things than with the news we could pollute ourselves out of existence… the only thing about throwing yourself from a bluff would be that you would have to spend your last few, drowning in a plastic refuse swarm…

we certainly live in interesting if not vibrant times.

i’ve never played skyrim, i bought it (and then returned it) pre x mas, but don’t get me wrong i’ve been known to lose time if not days while playing games:P i’ve lost interest in mmorpgs the last 2 years, altho i would try the star wars one. i always need a compelling narrative/story. and that’s something that’s always lacking a bit…

lol though it’s funny, most of my characters tend to look something like me, vaguely ‘asian’ with spiky hair.

although i will say, that my anime hair has been the envy of many, but it’s not like it’s cultivated by choice, rather by genes…lol

  23. My god, what a biased news report that was on the Occupy movement!  From
the first soundbite the reporter tries to sideline comics as ‘still
underground’ at the ‘cultural margins’.  Erm, conveniently forgetting
millions that have been made from the Marvel, DC and other publisher
    franchises.

Banging out the old ‘Starbucks drinking, ipod using’ protesters
chestnut, Christ what kind of Journalism is that!  Corporate Journalism I
guess. For anyone outside the UK, Channel 4 used to be
fairly controversial in its day, now it’s actually worse than the BBC.

Not to mention the billions made from movies based on comic books

  25. I should add that Frank Miller is a misogynistic limp little prick, who Alan Moore’s correctly analyzed as being largely irrelevant, and referring to the flotsam that was “300”, he called, “Wildly ahistorical.”

Alan Moore would kick Frank Miller’s ass.

  32. “Anti-capitalist protests” ? A LOT of the people protesting are not anti-capitalist.

    • Jin The Ninja | Jun 12, 2012 at 2:14 pm |

       but they should be.

      • Sure. But the media should recognize how diverse the crowd is. There’s a tendency by the msm to paint with a broad brush and oversimplify, what to corporate interests, is an uncomfortable reality.
And they do want to make protestors look like crazy comic book weirdos that are disconnected from reality.
