Bank Of America ATMs Altered To Become ‘Truth Machines’

San Francisco’s Rainforest Action Network altered 85 Bank of America ATMs around the city last week using sticker overlays, so that the machines would notify users of what their money is being used for. Bankrupting America has a handy map of the affected/improved ATMs.

  2. I stole a recycle bin from an  BoA atm location once. Right in front of the camera. What a rush….

If by “dissent,” you mean “raging stupidity,” yeah, sure, it do that.

      • Shit..disinfo doesn’t even do that. The only stuff I’ve ever seen pulled by mods were personal attacks with no redeeming value and adspammers. They let Chinese disinfo ops rant here…tolerate everything from neo-nazis hatespew to outright satanic manifestos. If disinfo isn’t ‘free’ enough for some peoples tastes…those people might need to step out into the world beyond moms basement and discover how ‘free’ everywhere else really is. Altho…to neo-con dweebs…the only freedom is in conformity to their cult…and criticism is a form of violence against their ‘freedom’. They can’t handle freedom for all…because the terrifying truth is that they belong to a fringe minority of rabid ideologues with no intellectual chops to back up their BS.

I like your spiels, Vox, I really do, but to be clear, my response was spite topped with a hint of sarcasm, okay?

          • Oh yeah…I know 🙂 I just wanted to chime in 🙂 Cuz one thing we both completely agree on is that trolls who wander thru here kvetching about their ‘freedom of speech’ being abridged by the perfidious leftist evils of disinfo…need to find a handy bridge and jump of it.

          • Not so much kill themselves but certainly toss their computers off the bridge.

          • Indeed, sir, indeed.  I would “like” that comment, but I’m not on Facebook so it just seems foolish for me to do so.

          Not entirely unlike rightist libertarians.

    • Bullshit.  Thugs are people who directly harm or intimidate you through violence; I’m sorry, but exactly who or what was harmed by this act?  I mean, aside from the poor sensitivities of Objectivist fuckwads who consider any criticism or act against the financial industry as tantamount to treason against Reason.  Hey that rhymed!

But seriously, if you think RAN are thugs, you’ve obviously never met a real thug.  Many young men (and women) living in the ghettos across this country are certainly thugs; many of the police who patrol their neighborhoods could also be defined as thugs; “terrorists” (in the popular sense) are definitely thugs, as are some of the members of our military combating them (pissing on dead bodies is not exactly an honorable act, whatever the circumstances).  There are no shortage of thugs in this world, but calling the Rainforest Action Network “thugs” is just stupid.

On a side note, anyone else pick up on the the fact that this ATM was manufactured by Diebold (they of the voting machine shenanigans)?

i wonder if any enterprising financial minds have attempted to start “ethical” banks to cash in on current sentiments and by creating banks with investments and loans restricted to outlined ethical guidelines

Careful, you’ll start to give people ideas.

They’re called credit unions. Most small, local banks are also pretty good… or at least not especially evil. Don’t forget that the basic functionality of banks really is beneficial to society, the problems arise from extremely large players abusing the system.

i think clearly outlined investment ethics guidelines would be a good draw and i have done business with plenty of small banks and credit unions just as shitty as any big bank

  5. I approve of this. When banks force-feed lies to the masses it’s called “advertising”. When people talk back to tell it like it is. It’s called “vandalism”. Funny how the world works.

Would love to own a Roland! Most local sign shops will give you $5 a sq.ft. on vinyl if you haggle. This is better than spray paint for a number of reasons. It would be fun to make something like Toynbee tiles if the dumpster gods provide the materials. Creativity will soften the “no good thoughtless trouble makers” image that liberating ad space might invoke.
