Polish Lawmaker Smokes Pot in Parliament

If Ron Paul or Barney Frank did something like this, I’d be a little bit more inclined to support them, especially concerning presidential bids … Reports Agence France-Presse via the RAW Story:

Janusz Palikot, the leader of a new party which brought in Poland’s first trans-gender and openly gay MPs, launched a drive Friday to legalise marijuana by smoking pot in parliament.

“This is the weed,” he told reporters in his office in the lower house of parliament, lighting up a large incense joint containing what he said was a legal quantity of marijuana.

Palikot said his party had submitted a bill to legalise marijuana.

Earlier on Friday, the philosophy graduate known for his flamboyant political stunts, caused a stir when he announced he would “light up” in parliament.

“I want to condemn the hypocrisy concerning marijuana consumption,” Palikot told reporters. “Someone said they would smoke a joint in parliament and the reaction was tantamount to someone announcing a coup d’etat.” …

        Its pretty surprising how much some people can smoke and still be very active and functional. More than you can say for the vast majority of drugs out there.

    I think it’s time they found a new scapegoat. Not only does marijuana have good medicinal properties, it’s great for contemplating things from a different perspective and opening your mind up, becoming more creative… Unless you have a predisposition to schizophrenia and the likes.

      The evidence linking Cannabis use to schizophrenia is specious at best (especially when the organic aetiology of schizophrenia remains undefined).

        Yeah, but as a precaution, people who are predispositioned that way (or suspect that they might be, since it’s kind of hard to tell, and I’m not sure if psychologists can test for that kind of stuff) had best avoid smoking it too frequently, just to be safe.

        Of course, in general I think people should avoid smoking pot too much anyways, just because you have to decide what state of mind is normality for you.

          Josh Adkisson, but many schizophrenics are actually helped quite a bit by marijuana use.
          People should avoid listening to bullshit proclamations on the internet from people who obviously have no fucking clue what they’re talking about, “just to be safe”.

          Yeh i have a friend who started using pot for his schizophrenia about 2 years ago. Seems to have really helped him. He did change his outlook on his mental illness and become all spiritual though… I guess it’s as they say. “schizophrenics drown where mystics swim”.

    Ron Paul’s public stance (and quite possibly his actual opinion) is that he “abhors drugs” but that prohibition is worse than the danger posed by free people making bad lifestyle choices. I doubt we’ll ever hear Ron Paul say anything favorable about marijuana, much less spark up a jay.
