Rick Santorum Opposes Liberal Indoctrination … At College

That’s right, Rick Santorum thinks that if fewer people went to college and, instead, studied “Judeo-Christian ideology,” the U.S. would be a better place. From RawStory via Current:

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Wednesday suggested that President Barack Obama wanted to every kid to go to college so they could be brainwashed into being a liberal.

Speaking to a crowd of Floridians at the First Baptist Church of Naples, Santorum said that churches and families were under “assault” by the president and liberals.

“We’ve lost, unfortunately, our entertainment industry,” the candidate explained. “We’ve lost our higher education. That was the first to go a long time ago. It’s no wonder President Obama wants every kid to go to college. The indoctrination that occurs at American universities is one of the keys to the left holding and maintaining power in America — and it is indoctrination.”

“If they taught Judeo-Christian ideology, they would be stripped of every dollar. If they teach radical secular ideology, they get all the government support that they can possibly get…

    Funny that the only indoctrination I’ve experienced while at college has been extremely Conservative. Usually from teachers that feel that students are being indoctrinated by Liberalism, so it is somehow their duty to provide an opposite perspective.

    The entirety of Christ’s moral teachings – “love God and your neighbor as you love yourself” – is a liberal ideology.  Conservatives are free to debate the soundness of that ideology, but they should do it honestly.

    What always boggles my mind is that whenever research or scholarship gives reason to embrace liberal views, conservatives always yell scholarship is biased, rather than that they themselves are simply wrong. (The opposite also happens, less conspicuously, with liberals being the close-minded ones to whatever insights that don’t fit their views, but the case is surely more clear-cut, more obvious, when it comes to the conservatives).

    Once people have decided what they believe, whether these believes are religious, scholarly, on an emotional plane or whatever, people stop f-ing thinking and start accusing everything else of being biased, unfounded propaganda. We’re all hard-headed twats in that sense. None as bad as conservatives in my view though (evolution, climate, counter-productive ‘hard-on-crime’ approaches). 
    Think more, believe less.

    Well of course he would oppose liberalism which of course has nothing to do with politics at all. A liberal is someone who frees him/herself with books ie.knowledge. The word liber means “free one” this topic is discussed in Jan Irvin’s logic, fallacies and the trivium. Also the word conservative has no political connotation. If there were real conservatives they would work to conserve real moral value and the environment. Instead the ‘conservatives’ as a political group are war mongers and religious bigots.

    So as it stands now we have no real liberals or conservatives just two sides of the same coin vying for dominance. A real liberal is one who frees him/herself with education and a real conservative would work to conserve the quality of the natural world and help to lift human values.

    Seems to me that college should be a place where lots of different ideas are debated freely, be they socialist, liberal, conservative, libertarian, anarchist or what have you.
