Woman ‘Cooked To Death’ At Guru’s Self-Improvement Seminar

image40Be careful what you consent to in the name of new age-y self actualization — it can go horribly wrong. From the National Post:

Quebec police officers have completed their report into the bizarre death of Chantale Lavigne — who was “cooked to death” at a personal development seminar.

Lavigne died in hospital after she and eight others in a personal-development seminar called Dying in Consciousness were covered with mud, wrapped in plastic, put under blankets and immobilized with their heads in cardboard boxes for about nine hours, under instructions to hyperventilate.

Gabrielle Frechette, a self-styled therapist, was the seminar’s operator. According to Radio-Canada, Frechette has been running self-improvement courses for about two decades, and claims to be channelling Melchisedech, a Biblical figure.

This is why you shouldn’t trust a complete stranger—to whom you are expected to pay a bunch of money—when trying to expand any sort of spiritual awareness or understanding.

I firmly believe all spiritual, philosophical, or personal psychological development should begin at the axiom: Know Thyself.

If knowing thyself would entail some manner of consciousness-augmentation, as is typical of things like the use of psychotropic substances, sweat lodges, or sensory deprivation, it is always important to have someone you know and trust (*and is familiar with whatever method employed) present, especially if you are inexperienced in how these forms of perception alteration will personally affect you.

Even in the case of high ritual involving the mirrors, sigils, and/or physical markings on the body and the like, I think, until you are comfortable in the space and effects, you should have someone else there.

Oh, and it would probably be a good idea to avoid any self-proclaimed anything (gurus and such), especially if they desire any sort of monetary compensation for their trouble.

Good thing shit like that is legal while Canadian police chase after Natives using ayahuasca.  God forbid you should try to attain spiritual enlightenment without risking death.

Anyone who tells you that you can’t achieve peace, harmony, enlightenment unless you self-torture and deprive your self in full of it. Check out Art of Living Foundation and “Yoga of Breath”

IMPORTANT LESSON TO BE LEARNED: If someone tells you to get covered with mud, wrapped in plastic, put under blankets and immobilized with your head in cardboard boxes for about nine hours under instructions to hyperventilate, just say “no”.

“…were covered with mud, wrapped in plastic, put under blankets and immobilized with their heads in cardboard boxes for about nine hours, under instructions to hyperventilate.”

Laughably stupid idea, there are far more comfortable and efficient (ecstatic, even) methodology for transcendental ‘death’ experience. This was dangerous and quite frankly a massive rip-off to all involved. Poor fools.

perhaps the ‘therapist’ could channel Melchisedech while he is covered with mud, wrapped in plastic, put under blankets and immobilized
with his head in a cardboard box for about nine hours, under
instructions to hyperventilate … & if he survives shoot him where his brain oughta be

I get plenty of enlightenment through Satanism and Luciferianism. I would never submit to something as crazy as that. Weirdos!
