The Self-Guided Bullet

Presumably the marketing pitch will be that you literally can’t miss. From KRQE:

Engineers at Sandia National Laboratories have invented a bullet that guides itself to the target. Sandia has wide expertise at miniature technology, and the bullet works like a tiny guided missile.

The patented design doesn’t shoot straight. Instead of a spiral rotation, the bullet twists and turns to guide itself towards a laser directed point. It can make up to thirty corrections per second while in the air.

Jim Jones, distinguished member of technical staff, and his team of engineers at Sandia Labs think the .50-caliber bullets would work well with military machine guns so soldiers could hit their mark faster and with precision…

Oh cool a targeting bullet with fins! Love that local news gives more seriousness to a kitten in a tree.Maybe if they did a piece on this bullet being shot at a kitten in a tree people would see how cool small arms fire is.

    • Ronniedobbs

What about a homicidal kitten in a tree with an AK loaded with self guiding bullets?

      • ADAUGEO

That’s not a real photo. Sniper kittens take their shot from inside the room under cover. “Did someone call me a pussy?”

  • Anarchy Pony

Great, more ridiculous amounts of power for the state military. What’s next? An implant in the back of your skull that explodes if you have an unapproved thought?

  • ADAUGEO

You think that’s scary? These F-ing these do not use human pilots at all

      Thats… actually pretty cool

      • Mr Willow

Say that again once they’re used for urban surveillance.

meh its probably only a matter of time.

I’d like to see them navigate out of some bird netting.

Thats all we need, a foolproof way of killing people. Now you don’t even have to be a skilled sharpshooter for long range murder?

    • Anarchy Pony

Yeah, but you better have a thick wallet.

  • Dr Kelly

Self guided bullets … and still a third of the world lives in poverty? Humans are fucked the quicker we die out the better.

    • joebob

No shit. Now we’re talking. The earth is the body and humans are the cancer, period. No arrogant posturing of “our” collective rights to “rule” the planet due to our “intelligence, morality, conscience, etc, etc. Humans are a messed up genetic clusterfuck. What a beautiful world it would be without us. Oh, BTW, I have a gun to my head right now. But wait, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, et al must die. Dang, life is soooo complicated.

science, taking the fun out of everything

    • Anarchy Pony

Then putting bullets in it. Or blowing it up. Or setting it on fire.

      • Hadrian999

        those are the fun parts

  • marklar_primus

If you really want to murder somebody you should have the balls to look them in the eye as you ram a piece of sharp steel through them. Anything less always has been and always will be cowardly.

Bright side…we’ll finally have a way to compensate for the lousy aim of a dumber and dumber population stuffed with drugs and barely cognizant of their actions from minute to minute! Yay for technology!

I wonder which unlucky country will be at the receiving end of this new military device that needs to be tested in real combat….
By some young Ameican who has no idea what he/she signed up for, who is endangering their country by “protecting” it…

  • JaceD

I just did a brief read up on Sandia Labs.

“Securing a Peaceful and Free World Through Technology” is their slogan.

“Securing a Peaceful and Free World Through Killing Everyone Who Doesn’t Live in the USA” seems more fitting.

    Tom Sellick, Gene Simmons, “RUNAWAY”…

  • DanMcD

I wonder what the power supply is, and if the components of that would violate chemical warfare treaties?
