Why is Hitler Selling Shampoo on Turkish TV? (Video)

Biomen Hitler CommercialReports Ayla Jean Yackley on Reuters:

A Turkish shampoo commercial featuring an enraged Adolf Hitler is a “huge insult to human rights” and should be withdrawn, leaders of the country’s Jewish community said on Monday. The 13-second television spot for Biomen shampoo shows black-and-white archival footage of the Nazi leader at a political rally. Dubbed in Turkish, he shouts that men should not use women’s shampoo.

I’ve always felt that sensitivity and overreaction to controversial things causes way more friction and animosity than the thing itself, but what do I know. Like burqa banning in France, to name one example.

I agree.  The ad will probably get pulled immediately and get more PR than any ad for that shampoo, the brand will become controversial and thus make it cool and different. Skinheads don’t use shampoo do they?

Although then the users might get targeted as being Nazi for using a product with such an spokesperson.  Perhaps a bit different than the burqa argument.

    Insane…

What kind of people would buy that thing?

There must be some logic to it… Maybe they know what they are doing?

Just get the attention, by any means, and the morons will buy the product.

Anyway, that is a bit outrageous, and should probably be banned.

This seems to happen periodically. I recall Hitler being used to sell some asian beer once. I think certain other cultures may just be psychologically more distant from Hitler than we are.

We wouldn’t think twice about making a similar caricature of Attila the Hun, or Genghis Khan, for example. I think that for them Hitler is in that category of purely historical figures that can be safely joked about, whereas for us it’s still “too soon.”

Or at least that’s how I interpret it. Maybe they’re just jerks.

      Get over your anti-Satanist quips.

The Roman Catholic church provided more nazi support than any other religious organization.

        So?

Nazi party nostalgia+kiddie Fiddling=Bad. So this is true if it goes on in the Catholic Church or in the Temple of Set. Its not real complicated.

It’s in really poor taste, but as others have pointed out, other cultures don’t share the shame views and “closeness” to the horror of Nazi Germany as we do. We might joke about the gulags in Russia, but to some this would be completely unbelievable.

Too many people are making too much of being “offended” by everything. We need to all get along, not all get offended. Ignore rubbish like this, it won’t last.

Why is a woman’s shampoo called “BioMEN?”

They certainly get style points. I guess if you want to use a demagogue to peddle your shampoo, you go for the biggest one ever.
