George Zimmerman Faces Second Degree Murder Charge

George Zimmerman

Breaking news via Fox News Latino:

Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey will announce Wednesday that she is charging George Zimmerman in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, according to multiple reports.

Corey will hold a press conference on the case at 6:00pm ET in Jacksonville, Fla., to announce that Zimmerman is in custody and will face second-degree murder charges, an official told the Associated Press. (You can watch the presser live on Fox News Latino)

The Washington Post first reported that Corey would bring charges.

Corey announced earlier this week that she was not convening a grand jury in the case, meaning the decision on whether to charge Zimmerman was hers alone.

Without a grand jury indictment, Corey could not pursue a first-degree murder charge. She could have gone forward with second-degree murder or manslaughter charges…

Now all that remains is for Mr. Zimmerman to have a fair trial where he’ll be found GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY!!!!

    • WeAreChangeAtlanta | Apr 11, 2012 at 9:01 pm |

Or Innocent. I think due process affords all of us Innocent before proven guilty status.  Not to interrupt your premature celebration though…  Let’s just hope they don’t  make him a scapegoat to attack the stand your ground laws.  God forbid we give the state another reason to persecute someone for defending themselves.  News Flash DHS orders 450million hollowpoints and bullet proof checkpoints.  I’m sure there is NO connection…….

      •  the problem here is that is took a national attention to get a man to court for killing someone.

        • WeAreChangeAtlanta | Apr 12, 2012 at 6:00 am |

The problem is it’s a diversion, and it’s being exploited to attack gun rights.  People get killed everyday. Young black men have their lives stolen by the Military Industrial Complex, The War on Drugs, and Systematic Exploitation everyday.  I don’t see Jessie J or Al Sharpton getting too upset over that.

Given the obvious media manipulation of this story and their very obvious connection between media/military/government (Many MockingBirds)  is it hard to imagine they’ve used this story to ferment racial antagonism, boost ratings, attack gun rights, and distract everyone from the epic fail of Kony and of course more Obama executive orders that are eroding EVERYONE’s liberties (yes black and white equally!)  So hey let’s get up in arms for media manipulation and avoid the big picture.  It’s easier to just do what the TV says after all…..

And glad disinfo changed the picture.  I’m so sick of seeing fat zimmerman and webster trayvon.  Let’s be somewhat respectful of the real facts and show them in a manner consistent with current reality.

      • News flash: Every cop you see already has hollow points loaded.

It’s only the Military that isn’t allowed to use them, because apparently dying in agony as you bleed out is more humane than just killing someone straight off. Full metal jacket rounds are not exactly ideal to use against unarmored targets.

        • VaudeVillain | Apr 13, 2012 at 12:34 am |

That’s because our military, for a variety of reasons, has been built to fight the wrong kind of enemy with the wrong kind of tactics. Many of those reasons weren’t even particularly bad: the results of poor predictions, incorrect assumptions and slightly misguided attempts to deter the wanton killing of civilians.

The US military is built for WWIII to be fought against defined foreign counterparts in clear-cut battles, not perpetual police actions against entities indistinguishable from civilians and (understandably) unwilling to engage in proper firefights. That’s why the VC were so much more effective than the NVA, and why “Al Qaeda” is so much more effective than either the Iraqi RG or the Taliban proper.

Oh really?  Give me a source to prove this.  Sorry I can’t take this at face value.

      • zombieslapper | Apr 12, 2012 at 7:18 am |

Um, I think he was making a point that went right over your head. As in he’s already been tried in the media and will not have a fair trial.

        • WeAreChangeAtlanta | Apr 13, 2012 at 4:42 pm |

Irony and sarcasm can and do fail online zombieslapper, surely you can see how it would be hard to detect given we have no other cues except bland type on white space.  Thanks for being a smart ass anyway 😉 < am I clear here, I'm being sarcastic, not antagonizing)

In those proficiency seminars (including the practical test on the range) which we must attend to renew our carry permits, we are told that the normal sequence after a shooting is to take the shooter into custody for homicide, and only then to sort things out fine enough to determine whether the shooting was justified or not. All that is abnormal is the length of time it has heretofore taken for the arrest to occur. A judicial proceeding will follow.

  4. Dragon Genie | Apr 11, 2012 at 11:21 pm |

Maybe it was a self defense case.. Some evidence might have made police release him in the beginning.
But I also have no idea about this issue. All I know is some young black kid got shot, which happens all the time. So why is this issue being blown up, why is it such a “big” story supposedly? I bet this young black kid (Trayvon) tried to steal some pot or drugs from this Zimmerman character and got shot. Which is just a guess, we will never know the true story.

This Zimmerman guy looks just like my drug dealer, I swear.

    •  Its funny because I ask the same question all the time (I live fifteen minutes from where this happened) considering what happened to Oscar Grant, Sean Bell, Amadou Diallo etc. it happens every year. The justification told to me is because “he wasn’t a cop” but I’m like wtf doesn’t being a cop make it worse?!?!?!?! I have come to my own conclusion its a media storm bullshit, I don’t know what the purpose is behind it but their is definitely some reason this is being blown out of proportion, so the question is why?!?!?!?

      • VaudeVillain | Apr 13, 2012 at 12:41 am |

Is it being blown out of proportion, though? A young man is dead with absolutely no physical evidence to suggest he was engaged in any wrongdoing while his admitted shooter was barely even questioned by law enforcement.

It’s sad that so many similar cases don’t get any attention, but that hardly means this case is undeserving of attention.

        • WeAreChangeAtlanta | Apr 13, 2012 at 4:48 pm |

No evidence?  Somhow Zimmerman ended up with a Broken Nose, Gashes on the back of his head and was screaming for his life according to a witness (who is black mind you)  So how come that evidence is not part of your awareness?  You don’t know what Law enforcement questioned or not because not all of that information is publicly available so please stop presuming you know more than you do and casting aspersions and pronouncements from place of ignorance.

    • JohnFrancisBittrich | Apr 12, 2012 at 12:16 pm |

Wow. You know, every case looks suspicious if you don’t look into it or read up on it AT ALL and then literally pull a potential scenario out of your ass that would somehow justify or prove your preconceived opinions and theories. This case is a “big deal” (and rightly so) for a number of very obvious reasons which it would take an intelligent person less than ten minutes to find information about online, and none of them have anything to do with drugs. Alas, what the thinker thinks the prover proves.

  5. DragonGenie | Apr 12, 2012 at 12:34 am |

    WOW! Deleted! Seriously?

Why the hell is this story such a big deal?

  6. DeepCough | Apr 12, 2012 at 12:55 am |

Hey, Disinfo, why you change picture?

    • WeAreChangeAtlanta | Apr 12, 2012 at 5:53 am |

      For accuracy.  Imagine that.

    • This is a current photo, the one that has been widely circulated in the media is a number of years old.

      • looks like a pussy hipster that panics and over reacts because of nothing. having a gun makes you think others are packing heat too. guns should be carried only by highly trained licensed gun lovers who have invested much time and money into their weapon and training. such a person would not want to lose their privilege to carry over minor issues and would think twice before shooting a man down. anything else is high criminal and dangerous to us all.

      • WeAreChangeAtlanta | Apr 13, 2012 at 4:46 pm |

Kudos Disinfo.  Shame on everyone else sharing hype and well disinformation….

  7. I don’t feel comfortable with the fact someone was charged with a crime after law enforcement cleared them. It seems like lynch justice. I have not read the reports and I have no opinion on weather or not zimmerman is guilty, I just fear a world where the media can cause people to go to jail…

    • zombieslapper | Apr 12, 2012 at 7:16 am |

Exactly. There should have been an investigation straight away. There wasn’t. And then every asshole on television and radio jumps on the story weeks later with their phony outrage. No way he’s getting a fair trial now.

      • Liam_McGonagle | Apr 12, 2012 at 11:56 am |

As Nixon used to say, “It’s the cover-up that gets you, not the crime itself.”

But I don’t think the outrage being reflected in the media is one bit phony.  Just like yourself, they were outraged by the cover-up.  Some of them may have expressed it better than others, and had a firmer grip on the relative weight of the factual evidence, but the outrage in and of itself is very real.

Can Zimermann get a fair trial?  Good question.  Now that the authorities have p*ssed away their last ounce of credibility with the cover-up, it’s hard to see any decision achieving a comfortable public consensus.

I say there is ample evidence to show that Zimermann is, was and has always been a person of marginal mental and emotional capabilities.  So his latest bit of Tomf*ckery, dodging his counsel and making uncleared public statements is no surprise.

That could have a practical impact on the trial.  It could plausibly be spun out into some type of insanity/incompetence defense.  Frankly, that does seem his best option.  A couple of years in a padded hotel suite followed by a court-supervised guardian may prove a humiliation for Zimermann, but it sure is a cr*p load better than tossing some 300 lb. gang banger’s salad for the next 20 years in Leavenworth.

        • WeAreChangeAtlanta | Apr 13, 2012 at 4:39 pm |

What cover up?  You mean where they say he didn’t have wounds and then it is very clear he had a broken nose and gashes as per the police report and enhanced video?  Or when NBC manipulated his 911 call to frame him as somehow racist.  Those cover ups?  Sorry I dont’ feel fit to try a man from without a trial, sadly many here do…

    • mannyfurious | Apr 12, 2012 at 11:47 am |

He shot an unarmed minor who weighed significantly less than him, after a 911 officer told him to stop following the kid. If that’s not “wrong,” I don’t know what is.

      • newtiffen | Apr 12, 2012 at 1:46 pm |

You don’t know the facts yet…quit jumping to conclusions.  What if he was taking the gun from Zimmerman and during the struggle it went off.  Why was the media showing pics of a 5th grader and an over weight Zimmerman?  The hyped racist outrage are from the people who actually beleive OJ didn’t slaughter to people.

        • mannyfurious | Apr 12, 2012 at 4:13 pm |

Newtiffen, you’re an idiot. All I mentioned were facts. Trayvon was unarmed, and he was a minor. He also weighed less than Zimmerman, both in 5th grade and two months ago. Zimmerman shot Trayvon after following him after he was told not to.

Those are the facts, are they not? Certainly there are many facts unbeknownst to us… but I can play your game too. For example:

“What if Zimmerman called Trayvon a racial slur and shot him for no reason after he was told to do so by a reptilian alien who had been visiting him in his sleep?” See that’s the problem with “what ifs” they’re completely imaginary.

Also, what the fuck does OJ have to do with anything you fucking twat?!!! You’re like those idiots who keep bringing up Al Sharpton, as if two wrongs somehow make fox news and George Zimmerman right.

          • WeAreChangeAtlanta | Apr 13, 2012 at 4:37 pm |

You forgot to mention he was either 6’1 or 6’3 according to different reports, add a hoodie and rain and recent break ins and we have the makings of a sad story.  Also Zimmerman did not issue any racist epithet , it sounds like you are just following the manipulated info the media has proliferated.  This is exactly why we should let the courts do their job and look at all of the evidence.  The media just wants this, people fighting and stirring up ratings and emotional heat.  Let’s be reasonable.

          • mannyfurious | Apr 13, 2012 at 4:55 pm |

I never said Zimmerman issued a racial epithet–I only said “What if” he did, to prove the poster above me how silly it is to play “what if” games.

I don’t think Zimmerman killed Trayvon in cold blood. I agree with Trayvon’s mom and believe it was a very tragic accident. I also find it fucking disgusting that we live in a country where mentally unstable geeks like Zimmerman are legally allowed to carry guns and harass unarmed, teenage black kids for wearing hoodies. Trayvon committed no crime that we know of that night, and Zimmerman followed him and probably confronted him anyway. And some people defend that because Trayvon was black and was wearing a hoodie and it “was dark.”  And all those people are racists and they are fucking idiots.

  8. “Fucking coons…”
    — son of a retired Virginia Supreme Court magistrate George Zimmerman

That’s why the outrage is justified.

    • Zimmerman | Apr 12, 2012 at 1:16 pm |

That was actually never said… try again

      • Yes it was.  I heard the tape, and it was quite clear.

        • Broken_Finger | Apr 12, 2012 at 4:50 pm |

I’m not taking sides, but I also listened to the tape, and I heard “fucking punks.”  It’s not clear to me that Zimmerman is racist.  Gun happy, yes; racist, I don’t know yet.

  9. Hughgrection | Apr 12, 2012 at 2:20 pm |

As a Caucasian male all I can say is thank God this guy wasn’t 100% white. There would have been riots and it would be 100% about race rather than just 80%. The weird thing is that I live in Phoenix and an unarmed African American male was shot not more than two miles from my house last month and it wasn’t even in the news papers or on TV.

    • Liam_McGonagle | Apr 12, 2012 at 3:27 pm |

Yeah.  I was 20% less outraged when I imagined that most of the DNA from his Peruvian grandfather settled in the lungs where Florida’s gonna gas Zimmerman.

Seriously, is there a point where this story becomes about a mentally marginal Zimmerman’s gross negligence in pursuing an unarmed minor against 911’s direct orders instead of the geographical distribution of these guys’ great-grandparents?

The fact that Martin came from a despised ethnic majority may have made it easier for the authorities to conduct a half-assed investigation originally, but race isn’t what this story is ultimately about.

  10. if you shoot your gun and kill someone (even in self defense), you need to go to the slammer or mental hospital for at least 6 months to cool off and get counseling or else the power released from the incident either corrupts creating the chance for more shootings or incapacitates rendering one unable to defend  ones self against anything in fear of the repercussions  . a gun is a offensive weapon, not defensive. it projects your rage out into the world.

    • in close range (10 feet) a knife is better for defense and from farther away one can run and hide from a gun. its only fair for one to be held after any shooting for mental evaluation for a certain period of time. keeps people from blasting off over anything but is not so bad that one will be afraid to defend ones safety when needed.

  11. Freestuff | Apr 13, 2012 at 1:02 am |

black people walk by my house all the time, i dont even stare and keep doing my thing. if they are not in my house robbing me its all good. for all i know one of them could become a great friend or help me out in case of an emergency. you never know when goodness and greatness is going appear. being positive can make the difference.

  12. In Zimmerman is entitled to a his peers, his defense lawyers should be able to channel of ghost of Johnnie Cochran,  and Zimmerman will walk.

  13. What happened to using your fists and kicking the shit out of somebody “in self defense”. Guns are for dick-less pussies!
