  1. I’m supposed to take a dude on a YouTube video with 4,000 views, speaking with a bad speech impediment and recording his voice into what sounds like a Fischer-Price tape recorder from 1989 who says Thomas Sowell “kind of, like, thinks he’s an intellectual” as more authoritative than a Stanford professor with a Ph.D. in economics from Chicago who holds the National Humanities Medal?

I don’t want to risk committing argumentum ad verecundiam, but … um … seriously?

    Like, serious, bro?

Sowell’s a pretty ramshackle thinker.  I’ve never seen anything written by him worthy of inclusion on the inside of a Bazooka Joe wrapper.

Which may be besides the point.  Conservative thinkers have a highly hierarchical world view based on the fundamental assumptions that all value judgments are hopelessly subjective and that all people outside of your immediate sphere of affiliation represent existential threats.

The notion of empirically verifiable facts is completely alien to them.  They make decisions instantaneously on the basis of pragmatic power politics, not some airy fairy ideals of relative probative value.

In this light they regard the sole purpose of debate as reinforcing affilial commitments and identifying those with dangerously weak loyalties or subversive tendencies to be culled from the herd.

Anything less than complete assimilation into the Borg is not acceptable.

      • And here comes the Viscount’s prize pony, prancing into the discussion!

Don’t want to risk? That’s all you said.
