‘Barcode Everyone At Birth’

Writer Elizabeth Moon constructs an argument for all humans to be barcoded — and the BBC gives her a high profile platform. No doubt “new world order” conspiracy-mongers will suspect the British state broadcaster of priming the pump for a one-world government that exercises total control over its citizens:

If I were empress of the Universe I would insist on every individual having a unique ID permanently attached — a barcode if you will; an implanted chip to provide an easy, fast inexpensive way to identify individuals.

It would be imprinted on everyone at birth. Point the scanner at someone and there it is.

Having such a unique barcode would have many advantages. In war soldiers could easily differentiate legitimate targets in a population from non combatants. This could prevent mistakes in identity, mistakes that result in the deaths of innocent bystanders. Weapons systems would record the code of the use, identifying how fired which shot and leading to more accountability in the field.

Anonymity would be impossible as would mistaken identity making it easier to place responsibility accurately, not only in war but also in non-combat situations far from the war…

Right or wrong?

Steal your ID with RFID … install counterfeit chip … duplicate the chip and have multiple personalities … too much fun figuring out all the ways to hack this nonsense!

Love your sense of humour Noah!

btw  I’d rather have someone making wisecracks as the ship goes down.  Don’t want to hear “Nearer My God to Thee”.

isn’t that the premise of “Dollhouse”?

  • I give up on the internet

No way that could possibly backfire or be abused buy those in authority.

Just stamp 666 on my forehead and get it over with.

It is revolting, a huge degradation of privacy and individual right.  In the United States they don’t even ask for ID to vote in most states, to step it up to this is more akin to being a prisoner in a concentration camp than a step for freedom.

This is more like cementing the enslavement of the population as subservient than a positive movement.   FACT:  RFID chips cause cancer in pets.  Why the hell should they get put in humans?  why the heck should human allow DNA records of each person? why the hell should humans allow retina scans, which can be done 15-20 meters away.    This is all an unreasonable, and in the US, unconstitutional concept.

      >”This is all an unreasonable, and in the US, unconstitutional concept.” <You bet it is and yet  in Massachusetts we are FORCED into commerce with private health insurance, & every bloody year we have to fill a long form to re-apply… Freedom is the illusion of those that live within the parameters, there is no privacy we're all tracked right here right now & it'll get worse.

ha lol  it’s bizarre what a couple of greater that sign brackets will produce, oi.

    No.

  • snark snark ha ha

    Unconvincing, the article wines.
    For example, every statement made
    “Having such advantages”
    of War and Convenience
Its all you have to say

    Any use given
    IS impossible to persuade
    There would always be rebellion
    inspired by this simple scanner
Its quite obvious your plans wont work.
I only fear that these warmongers and co. ,
care only for extreme power in this lifetime and will set the world on fire.

Even the author of this article is presumptuously greedy enough to image herself as being queen of the entire universe! As if that were even possible humanly imaginable lolol
Its so obvious to us now who these people really are!

“Empress of the Universe”!?!? How could you even read past that and take anything she said seriously?

  • Pawlie

I am not saying someone who cant spell or proof read should have an option to make an argument for something as stupid as identifying people at birth.

gotta remember insurgents/guerilla fighters/terrorists are not part of any organized military, therefore no chips or ids would be registered as legal combatants.  still extremely difficult to tell the difference between non-combatants and the people who use them as cover in war

    • withgoddess

key words “at birth”…no one is any of the categories you have mentioned at birth.

“All your everyone is now belong to us.”

These test balloons are sent up every so often to gauge public reaction / outrage.

I have the feeling it’s just a matter of time until the Empress of the Universe gets her wish.

I can’t read the original article, because although I live in the UK and pay (a stupidly expensive) license fee, they like to make money from foreign markets by having adverts on parts of their site, and because I’ve paid a fee already they block me from viewing content that is originally funded by myself? Just because they don’t want me to see adverts? WTF???
I could just use a proxy site, but that’s not the point.

  • herzmeister

    > Having such a unique barcode would have many advantages. In war soldiers could easily differentiate legitimate targets in a population from non combatants.

    Argument from authority, circular logic.

Without governments who can put barcodes on us, there wouldn’t be any wars in the first place.

  • JaceD

“If I were empress of the Universe…” and barcoding people so civilians wont get killed in combat is the best you could come up with…? How unimaginative….

As for the actual barcoding of people… What a fucking stupid idea, who would want to be barcoded and prevented from doing anything slightly “anti-social”? Oh, I know who, people who go about their lives like they’re stuck in a perpetual hamster-wheel  going round and round every day and the thought of those beautiful faces on the 6o’clock news lying to them is just plain ridiculous.

  • Caelidh

how about we just do away with war?

  • Redacted

What is this retarded cunt smoking?

  • Flounder52

This is possibly the most ridiculous and intrusive suggestion I have ever come across  - absolutely insane, this should never happen!

    • withgoddess

      Shouldn’t but it will!!!!

  • WhatWhatWhat

Anyone have this women’s email or phone number so I can express how deeply concerned I am with her thought process?

  • oh no

Yeah this lady is having  fantasy time, Illuminati style. I dream of being the boss sometimes but empress of the universe is a bit over the top even for me. There is a bar code on my drivers license already, which i am obligated to carry done and done bitch. The only way they could do this is with nano technology.

  • http://twitter.com/torankrai Toran

No way! Barcode chips not humans!

  • anon

Everyone seems to forget about our fingerprints, or better yet, our retina prints :)

We already can be uniquely identified. NEW WORLD ORDER IS NOW, SO SCARY.

  • Moomey101

its a blatent disregard for civil libertys

In case anyone had any doubts, yes, she’s crazy… http://www.elizabethmoon.com/

Freakin’ Insane!!!!! We’ll then be subjected to Totalitarian government control.  Ominously telling that she emphasizes its advantages for military warfare.

  • ben_b

Just tattoo numbers on everyone’s arm, no problem.

I’m voting for Richard Nixon’s Head this coming election. He is the only candidate that will let us chose which arm our chip get implanted in.

hey have you got something to hide, if not then you should champion this technology, I trust the Government to handle it from call centers in India.
