Gary Johnson: ‘Politics Be Damned’ Running to Win As Libertarian Presidential Candidate (Video)

Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson said Tuesday night that he is running as a third-party candidate because he has a message to convey: “Politics be damned.”

“The ‘pie in the sky’ notion” is to win the race, Johnson told The Daily Show. He also noted that he’ll appear on ballots alongside President Obama and Mitt Romney in all 50 states in November.

“Lots of opportunity to change the world a little bit,” he said, describing his campaign. “I have seen nothing but increased crowds, increased appetite for what I have to say.” Comedy Central host Jon Stewart described being a libertarian as two halves of a friendship necklace — half Republican, half Democrat, according to the policies that traditionally appeal to each part — coming together to make a whole heart. Johnson agreed.

      That’s a fairly bold statement, there is a Libertarian Left you know, they are the definition of Classic Socialism Or Anarcho Communism and Voluntarism at it’s finest. Then you have the Libertarian Right who is split between An-Cap’s and Minancharist. Both Sides of the political spectrum are represented it’s just where we go after we rid ourselves of the government or at least most of the government,  how much freedom we allow and if we acknowledge Owner ship of items.

      It’s just such a wide umbrella that calling all Libertarians Capitalist Scum really doesn’t do it justice.

        That’s why I said ‘right’ libertarian. I am relatively well exposed to the various schools of anarchism and libertarianism. In general right libertarian is used as synonymous with anarcho capitalism-which at best has very little claim to the term anarchist.

          Well then that’s your opinion, personall I don’t see Capitalism is a truely free Society as some thing evil. I see it as  a vessel to move forward because without incentive it’s very hard to motivate large groups of people. Also as bad as greed is it’s still a universal equalizer, everyone is entitled to their own personal greed it’s those of which want it the most who would benefit. You could argue that people are born into the hard waork tf their parents and how that’s not fair and I agree but their is just little you can do, especially with the government in the way.

           I would like to see a Minancharist societ, an An Cap Society and an Anarcho Communist society before I would make up my mind about what I felt was actually the best. I just have my doubt about each of them and would like to see each in working practice.

            I think you’re mistaking greed, which is materialistic, with healthy selfishness, which is psychological.  Either way, for greed to power of the engine of society, like steam in a turbine, it has to have something to push against, i.e. regulations.

            I don’t think either an absolutely capitalist or absolutely socialist society would work.  It seems to me both socialism and capitalism have their places, and depend on each other.

            I do think it has to be one or the other, I don’t think people can be hypocritical enough to think they can own things and not own things at the same time. Which is the major differences between libertarian Left and Right.

            anarcho cap and right libertarian societies have been described in quite a bit of detail in dystopic speculative and science fiction. philip k dick has quite a potent pen in describing the tyranny of corporate nation states. and left libertarian (egalitarian) examples can be found both in history and indigenous cultures.

    I can’t help but think this is another plant for people who still believe that our country has any hope whatsoever.  Ron Paul is getting old, tired, and popular.  Since it appears that Ron Paul is throwing in the towel, it’s curious to me that we now see another “hope” for the republic emerging rather quickly.  Of course, most of us know that this attempt is futile.  What is in motion has been planned for hundreds of years.  It is highly unlikely that a quirky doctor from Texas or another long shot can reverse these motions of those in charge.

      I don’t think most libertarians( Little l) have much hope for the current US government. I think they just want to soften the blow when it comes crashing down due to failed unsustainable policies.
