The Emergency Broadcast False Alarm of 1971

Via Things Magazine, sometimes, behind everything lies confusion:

The False Alarm of 1971 was an accidental triggering of the USA-wide Emergency Broadcast System, ‘an expeditious method of communicating with the American public in the event of war, threat of war, or grave national crisis.’ A detailed description of the event is chronicled here, the great accidental test broadcast of 1971, complete with a scan of one of the most ominous documents to ever be received by a Teletype machine:

THIS IS AN EMERGENCY ACTION NOTIFICATION (EAN) DIRECTED BY THE PRESIDENT. NORMAL BROADCASTING WILL CEASE IMMEDIATELY. ALL STATIONS WILL BROADCAST EAN MESSAGE ONE PRECEDED BY THE ATTENTION SIGNAL, PER FCC RULES.

The fault originated from the heart of Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado and involved the accidental inclusion of a real code word – ‘hatefulness’ – on a test transmission of the Emergency Broadcast System. As one broadcaster reportedly said, “This confusion ‘shows the whole darn (system) won’t work. They could’ve been dropping H-Bombs on us.’”

It’ll be a lot more fun when this happens again.

I can see some script kiddies hacking the cell phone alert systems and really having a good time warning people about

“Zombie Attack! If you are outside please climb a tree and wait for authorities to arrive. If you are inside, arm yourself and hide in an attic or dark closet” or even

“Biological attack in Progress. Please proceed to local police stations for issuance of Biohazard suit. Please form an orderly line. We assure you that there are enough suits for everyone.”

I’d like to see them warn that the Rapture is in progress.

Funny you should say that. This past February, several hackers intruded the EAS networks in parts of Michigan, Wisconsin, New Mexico and Montana. They sent out a false zombie alert, warning that “dead bodies are rising from their graves and they are attacking the living. Do not attempt to approach these bodies, as they are considered dangerous.”

this is Big Homelander’s Achilles heel
    the technology is smart
but the humans running it are not

this is the one 9/11 argument that does not get a lot of attention
and if you buy into the official 9/11 story
then the multi-trillion dollar automated defense apparatus
completely failed in a time of emergency
and the incredible incompetency of the operators was completely overlooked
