Why Smart Meters May Be Bad For Your Health

PBS Newshour reports that an unlikely coalition of California environmentalists, liberals, Tea Party supporters and other activists want “smart” electric meters banned, claiming that they’re bad for your health:

    Nice formatting.

Health issues… Remember when PCB’s and radiation DDT and nuclear power were safe?
Remember when computers were to make it a “paperless society”?
Cell phones will make you more “free”?
We must always question the safety and effectiveness of new technologies. Those touting the technologies are almost always the ones who stand to gain from it.
These meters will also make it possible for Utility companies to know when you are using energy and thus charge “Time of Use” billing. Another gouge. There is a reason that demand is high at 5-6pm… That’s when people cook and eat.Does it make sense for the average family to eat at 9pm? Or do laundry at3am?

       paranoid and disingenuous.

    •  Spot on. “Smart” meters are a scam. They provide no benefit to the user, only to the utility by replacing jobs with hard on the environment plastic/electronic “smart” meters. There’ s nothing green about them. People save energy, not meters. A smart meter doesn’t save energy, it actually has a higher burden than the analog meter it replaces, so energy consumption actually rises. The pulsed chronic microwave radiation is proven harmful by causing blood brain barrier leakage, seizures, headaches, insomnia, palpitations, nose-bleeds, and other nervous system disorders. The realtime monitoring of energy consumption is a warrantless search and a violation of basic privacy. Fight these evil “smart” meters with everything you’ve got. It’s the beginning of the end of our civil rights.

    • Here is shameless proof that smart metering is all about money or ROI (Return on Investment). They could care less about what happens to people from the emissions. It’s about big money, big power over consumption.

Anyone who lives next to a licensed amateur radio operator (particularly technician class) is almost certainly getting hit with more radiation in the same frequency bands as these meters. It’s relatively low frequency and fairly low power; no real story here.

There are also over-the-air TV channels in the same frequencies…

      •  You’re wrong. “Smart” meters operate their HAN at 2.4 GHz. There are no TV signals at these microwave frequencies. And having a transmitter attached to your house that your child could be in close proximity to is different than a tower. Also, the pulsed chronic low-level microwaves that “smart” meters transmit are proven to be harmful to humans. Regardless, adding more electro-smog is not going to do anybody, or any animal, any good.

2.4 GHz is the same frequency as Wireless B, Wireless G, Wireless N, Bluetooth, LR-WPANs, and a lot of home phones. All of these are things within a home or physically on your person. If there was any legitimacy to your claims, it would have been settled a decade ago.

Wireless is fun and popular. But not been proven safe, and numerous studies show harm. The industry-funded ones mostly do not show harm.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has finally called for cell phone radiation standards to be set to protect children. The American Academy of Environmental Medicine has called for a halt to smart meter use as assessed by their professional medical knowledge of the science. India has just called to lower cell tower emissions to .92W/m2. Russia has it at .2W/m2. The U.S. has it at 12 W/m2.

The U.S. is truly backwards when it comes to public health protection and precautions.

  4. they oughta make it an iPhone app
    then everyone would want it

I do not have doubt for the smart Meters.

This equipment is new tech., and is part of agenda 21. Wake up America and smell the roses. The Tea Party’s are right on the point and this article doe’s not know what is talking about. Do the home work yourself and go to “you tube”, “the dark side of smart meters” and see for yourself!
