China’s Wealthy And Powerful Sometimes Hire Body Doubles To Serve Their Prison Sentences

In America, the power to imprison and punish convicts has been outsourced to private corporations, so perhaps the serving of jail sentences will soon be “privatized” as well. Slate writes:

The practice of hiring “body doubles” or “stand-ins” is well-documented by official Chinese media. In 2009, a hospital president who caused a deadly traffic accident hired an employee’s father to “confess” and serve as his stand-in. A company chairman is currently charged with allegedly arranging criminal substitutes for the executives of two other companies. In another case, after hitting and killing a motorcyclist, a man driving without a license hired a substitute for roughly $8,000. The owner of a demolition company that illegally demolished a home earlier this year hired a destitute man, who made his living scavenging in the rubble of razed homes, and promised him $31 for each day the “body double” spent in jail.

In China, the practice is so common that there is even a term for it: ding zui. Ding means “substitute,” and zui means “crime”; in other words, “substitute criminal.”

The ability to hire so-called substitute criminals is just one way in which China’s extreme upper crust are able to live by their own set of rules. While Occupy Wall Street grabbed attention for its attacks on the “1 percent,” in China, a much smaller fraction of the country controls an even greater amount of wealth. The top one-tenth of 1 percent in China controls close to half of the country’s riches.

SOP for corporations as people.  All penalties incurred are rolled down hill on the hapless minions and John Q public while the overlords play musical boardroom chairs.

Exactly.  Giving a business organization the rights of a corporal human was one of the greatest government scams ever invented.

it always amuses me when Westerners point out something unusual in China
especially since they’ve never been there or know anything about it
China is the most foreign, foreign country I have ever lived in
nothing Westerners think of as normal is normal in China & vice versa
except maybe rich people abusing the system

but this article is especially amusing
since Der Homeland imprisons more people than China
imprisoned more people than any country in the world
and most Homeland prisoners are poor Blacks & Hispanics
while rich bankster crooks walk free
which is why they call that place
    The Land of the Free

Just curious if this article offend you in some way ?   It came off to me as something interesting about China that isn’t common knowledge in the US. I see no bias for or against this practice in the article.  These sort of things are what makes China a fascinating Country imo.

You are right to some degree about money buying freedom in the US but if you look closer at the crimes committed by these “poor Blacks & Hispanics” that make up the bulk of our prison populations you will see that no amount of money will buy freedom for Gang members in our society. Gang enhancements added to our laws make that virtually impossible once a person is charged with Gang related crimes and there is a shred of evidence.  99.9% of these people are not sad miscarriages of justice because they are poor, they are complete scum who victimize others without remorse and are exactly where they should be.
The sad part of it all is over 80% of this human trash will go free at some point.

Most China articles are psyops designed to deflect heat off Uncle Homeland.
This article draws attention to one of many unusual customs of China.

But mainly I couldn’t resist the temptation to point out that Der Homeland’s custom of imprisoning poor Backs and Hispanics for profits is much more heinous.

It’s kind of hard to take you seriously when you use terms like “Uncle Homeland” and “Der Homeland.” You sound like a nutjob.

That said, you’re probably right, ya fuckin nutjob.

          • http://buzzcoastin.posterous.com BuzzCoastin

            right on, you got it
Der Homeland is designed to tweak those who still like to pretend
that they live in the Land of the Free

glad you were tweaked by it

Oh and while we’re on the subject
Before September 20, 2001 the word “homeland” doesn’t appear to have been much a part of the American lexicon. Not in political rhetoric, anyway. The word does not appear in inaugurals, State of the Union messages, or declaration-of-war speeches by either Woodrow Wilson or Franklin D. Roosevelt, both of whom could easily have claimed to be defending the homeland. (FDR mentioned “homeland” only in passing in three Fireside Chats, and always in reference to other countries–the Dutch, the Russians, and the Japanese.) The word isn’t found in the major addresses of Cold Warriors Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon. “Homeland” does not appear in Ronald Reagan’s major speeches either–not even the one in which he called the Soviet Union the “evil empire.”

In fact, the greatest prose stylist ever to occupy the White House never used it. If ever there were a man whose speeches and writings positively sung thanks to their evocative use of language, it was Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln was a writer and speaker who knew the value of using precisely the right word in precisely the right place. “Homeland” doesn’t appear one solitary time in his Collected Works.

That’s right ‘tardo, fight the symptom, ignore the cause. Just like the establishment wants.

Come on Anarchy, we all know that 99.9% of the poor are just homicidal kleptomaniacs who kill and steal for a bit of a laugh on a rainy Sunday.

Hey. ‘Blacks & Hispanics’ in China are nothing more then their vast Provinces of their Country and Mindset.

America, while under Corporatism rule, at least, makes the common denominator away from the General Norm of generating an Economy.

If China doesn’t like… Make sure that in Two Years, America will follow.
