Exposing the Strange Bedfellows Behind ‘Innocence of Muslims’

The Guardian’s Max Blumenthal has taken a stab at unraveling the making of the inflammatory film Innocence of Muslims, exposing a strange alliance of soft-core pornographers, political players and criminals. Undoubtedly, there are probably more layers to this particular onion, but this seems as good a place to start as any:

The Associated Press’s initial report on the trailer – an amateurish, practically unwatchable production called The Innocence of Muslims – identified a mysterious character, “Sam Bacile”, as its producer. Bacile told the Associated Press that he was a Jewish Israeli real estate developer living in California. He said that he raised $5m for the production of the film from “100 Jewish donors”, an unusual claim echoing Protocols of the Elders of Zion-style fantasies. Unfortunately, the extensive history of Israeli and ultra-Zionist funding and promotion of Islamophobic propaganda in the United States provided Bacile’s remarkable statement with the ring of truth.

Who was Bacile? The Israeli government could not confirm his citizenship, and for a full day, no journalist was able to determine whether he existed or not. After being duped by Bacile, AP traced his address to the home of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a militant Coptic separatist and felon convicted of check fraud. On September 13, US law enforcement officials confirmed that “Sam Bacile” was an alias Nakoula used to advance his various scams, which apparently included the production of The Innocence of Muslims.

According to an actor in the film, the all-volunteer cast was deceived into believing they were acting in a benign biblical epic about “how things were 2,000 years ago”. The script was titled Desert Warrior, and its contents made no mention of Muhammad – his name was dubbed into the film during post-production. On the set, a gray-haired Egyptian man who identified himself only as “Sam” (Nakoula) chatted aimlessly in Arabic with a group of friends while posing as the director. A casting notice for Desert Warrior listed the film’s real director as “Alan Roberts”. This could likewise be a pseudonym, although there is a veteran Hollywood hand responsible for such masterpieces as The Happy Hooker Goes Hollywood and The Sexpert who goes by the same name.

(Sorry for the double-posted comment …. but it may apply to this story as well):

I suspect someone else’s fingerprints are on this. Not the production of the film, which was made a while ago – but the timing of its dub into Arabic, and its viral dissemination by “Reverend” Terry Jones.

Jones is a nutwack with a thirst for fanning the flames of mob violence to ‘prove’ his points about Islam. Why fan the flames now? The film has been around for at least a year. Was Jones “nudged?” And who had something to gain by nudging him?

Karl Rove has a history of whispering small but insidious suggestions into the ears of the willing & unsavory … with an uncanny timing that usually produces big results. Rove has been obsessed with casting Barack Obama in the role of Jimmy Carter for this US election cycle. And wouldn’t it be convenient for that narrative if ever-percolating middle east protests resulted in a well-timed hostage crisis?

OK, I’m just kidding, I don’t believe that at all … I’m just pitching my plot idea for a new conspiracy-themed block-buster movie, starring Obama as Jimmy Carter, Mitt Romney as Ronald Reagan’s hair, and Nicholas Cage as the rumpled guy who solves the mystery.

But here’s the plot twist … it’s not a conspiracy movie at all, it’s a PORNO!! (And the filmmaker clearly has experience in said genre).

This film ends with a sweaty, flabby 3-way between Karl Rove, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Sheldon Adelson playing rusty trombones in a Tel Aviv waterbed.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the role of Rev Jones will be played by JulianBeck:

  2. the executive producers once operated out of 1164 Laurel Canyon Blvd
    Holy Wood, Californication

but the film is only a shiny object to stare at
while the magicians preform some slight of hand
    hope you enjoy the show

“Bacile told the Associated Press that he was a Jewish Israeli real estate developer living in California.”

Well, shit, if he really wanted to paint himself as “Jewish” why didn’t he call himself a “Chasidic Rabii gemologist from New York?”
