Another dark chapter in the Kosovo conflict has come to light. A former Kosovo fighter has come forward with a gruesome claim: He and his comrades in arms harvested organs from captured Serbs for sale on the black market. Rumors concerning organ stealing have circulated for years in the international community, and the testimony of the anonymous witness could bring more such cases to light:
Earlier on Sunday the Serbian prosecutor said the witness claimed he received special medical training in how to harvest organs and gave a detailed description of the operation, adding that the heart was sold on the black market.
Vukcevic would not give any more details about the identity of the witness, other than to say he was a former member of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) currently under strict protection measures.
Claims of organ harvesting by the KLA during and after the 1998-99 conflict are being investigated by the European Union.
The case could prove devastating for Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, who has been linked to such rumors in the past.
