The DisinfoCast with Matt Staggs: Comedian Lee Camp

iTunes | Download (mp3) | RSS | iPhone App

Ask people about Lee Camp, and they’ll compare him to some of comedy’s greats, like George Carlin and Bill Hicks. While those are valid comparisons, Lee has his own voice, a style of politically charged humor that has garnered praise from his fellow comics and the public alike. He is infamous (or famous, depending on who you ask) for his appearance on Fox News in which he described the network “a parade of propaganda and festival of ignorance” live on the air. Through his Moment of Clarity podcasts, live performances and written work, Lee Camp has become a human loudspeaker voicing the too-often quiet frustrations of an increasingly exasperated American public.

    AUGHGGHGHHHHH SERIOUSLY DISINFO?!?!?!?! SERIOUSLY?!!!!

    :RAGEFACE.JPG:

Comparing this douchebag to George Carlin and Bill Hicks is like comparing Luke Rudowski to Edward R. Murrow.

Coming up next on Disinfo.  Luke Rudowski:  Greatest Journalist of Our Generation or Of All Time?

I believe that Time Out Sydney and The Guardian made the comparisons. http://leecamp.net/about/. You may also not want to pick up Rolling Stone this week:

There will always be legitimate differences of opinion about such fundamentally subjective things as sense of humor.

But objectively, you do have to admit, when critics are too quick to jump to compare a contemporary with “classic” artists, it’s fair to question whether anything novel or original is going on.

I love me some Bill Hicks and George Carlin, but only up to a point.  I think even those guys would agree.  Carlin had some brutally honest self-assessments in his autobiography.

I don’t disagree with you at all. It’s all a matter of opinion, though. I like Lee’s stuff, but notice I didn’t make the comparison. ;)

EDIT: I added “trollface” to my comment solely as a good-humored response to Miracles’ invoking of “RAGEFACE.JPG”. No offense intended.

It’s a time for passion and anger for the under represented and poor against the plutocracy so having a voice like Camp’s is important but he doesn’t have the comedic talent of either of those other guys so don’t oversell.  And to split hairs more, Hicks came out of a time when what he was doing was pretty novel (despite guys like Lenny Bruce and others who came before Hicks that were doing similar stuff). It involved a certain measure of balls and courage to be as plain spoken then.  Nowadays I’m personally more surpised when I find people who tell me they’re not interested in politics or don’t have an opinion about what’s going on in the world.  Still, I really like what Lee is doing and I think he’s galvanizing alot of ideas putting together rants that cover alot of ground under each of his umbrella topics.

    @ 27:ish

the psyop that your vote for puppet prez counts
completely ignores the Electoral College & the Supreme Court
one Constitutionally elects the puppet prez (not your vote)
the other illegally decides puppet prez elections (not your vote)

it also ignores that Obummer kept a significant number of Bushies around
    especially in “intelligence” & “defense”
and all his financial advisers were Banksters who caused the collapse
so I fail to see how Obummer was/is better than McCain & the Bimbo

add to that the continuation of GITMO
    terrorist drone strikes
    executing Americans without due process
and the complete and utter duplicity of his public statements
    therefore
I am forced to the inevitable conclusion
your friends who are complaining to you about your vote
    are psyoped morons
and you need a new group of friends
(not an order of course, just a friendly suggestion)

    • Matt Staggs

      I can’t argue with that.

sometimes I get caught in the psyop
and start to take it seriously
        because seriously
no one’s vote matters to anyone but the elite
who use it to justify their right to oppress

It’s time to drop the control devices of the false left/right paradigm.  In other “words” let’s not perpetuate self identification with labels of division and obfuscation.  There is no difference.  It’s a scam.  The difference between Hicks and Carlin is they knew the real score and spoke out.  I don’t see that in any of today’s comics.  Rogan will let others sometimes eek it out on his podcast but not often enough.  It’s time we stop kidding ourselves.  For anyone involved in Occupy, do you believe giving the government more power to redistribute wealth is the only way to amend our problems?  How about limiting government so that we can keep the money we earn and they not have an infinite cash cow for war?  This can only occur if we restrict the desire to play within their controlled system and simply acknowledge the fallacy of government and authoritarianism period.
