USA Made Dictators, NY Times Propaganda, ‘They’ Hate Us Because We Bomb Them

Breaking the Set: Abby Martin discusses the ongoing narrative of sweeping generalizations resounding in the establishment following the wave of protests spreading across the Muslim world. BTS then interviews former New York Times journalist, Daniel Simpson, about his choice to leave the famous newspaper after citing war propaganda in its publications. Abby wraps up the show with a look at the United States’ notorious international military training facility ‘the School of the Americas’, with interviews from peace activist Father Roy Bourgeois, and takes a closer look at US foreign Policy in Latin America with a discussion with RT Producer, Rachel Kurzius.

Please visit South America, any country that was a victim to US Sponsored Plan Condor in the 70`s, inform yourself, and then talk. What the US did to South America is completely atrocious, and if US Americans would really know, really grasp the ramifications of US actions in South America, they would be really really ashamed, and they would think twice before adopting that obnoxious superior attitude toward the rest of the world that`s so dear to them. The rest of the world hates US of America because it behaves like a fundamentalist country that believes to be chosen by God to rule the rest of the world. The worst part of all is that US Americans support their foreign policy just by adopting that AWFUL holier-than-thou attitude or by being just plain ignorants about anything that happens outside their borders. Please educate yourself. Start by reading about the history of your own country. Like for example, THE ALAMO. It was about slavery and you still celebrate it. What a bunch of uneducated people. But yeah yeah, you sent a man to the moon, thanks US Americans, keep ruining the rest of the world anyway you want it. You even call yourselves Americans, as the name of THE WHOLE CONTINENT. You`re Americans, we are SOUTH Americans. Right. The US doesn`t even have a well-know left-wing newspaper, it`s probably one of the most right-wing countries in the whole world. And you`re proud. You are such a bunch of brainwashed people, that you can have presidents that call themselves Christians while bombing other countries and destroying the poor all over the world. That, for the rest of the world, doesn`t make sense. AT ALL. It seems like out of poorly written science fiction, that kind where you say “OOOOh, c`moooon, how could so many people NOT SEE that they`re ruled by completely evil people, no one can be cheated like that.” And so it goes. Read Kurt Vonnegut or something, it`s in your language. I would tell you to read The Open Veins of Latin America, but it`s written by a guy from Uruguay, and you probably think that Uruguay is in Africa. Like most of the uneducated people in the US.

That’s a very cogent response to the claim that Russia Today is a propaganda arm of the Putin Government.

Stop and think more deeply about what you’ve said:  If RT’s only goal is to make the U.S. look bad, wouldn’t they be as quick to tell an ugly truth about the U.S. as an ugly lie?  Certainly they’re not going to tell any beautiful lies.

u.s. history is ugly and complicated, doesn’t fit well with what we learn in gradeschool. people would rather believe that their nation is some sort of moral crusading force rather than examine what really happened

That reminds me of a claim I once saw proudly made by some Scottish politician, that Scotland was the only country in Europe never to have experienced any antisemitic pogroms.  That made me laugh hard.

I suppose it might be apropos to mention that this point that, by the best reckoning, Scotland had a Jewish population of exactly zero until the 17th century.

The only countries with no blood on their hands are those who’re too poor to fund a decent military or to have anything worth stealing.

          • http://twitter.com/jfqbsh Jason F Quackenbush

Who said it’s their only goal? And who said it was a lie? It’s well documented that the US Media dropped the ball on investigating the WMD claims made by the Bush administration in the run up to the Iraq war. My only point is that Abby Martin is a useful idiot and Russia Today is a worthless source because it’s nothing more than a propaganda outlet for the Kremlin. Don’t get so upset and defensive just because you get outskepticked and your own sacred cows com under fire as well.

“Outskepticked”?  Abby Martin?  Who gives a sh*t about any of that.

I’m glad to see that you’ve adopted American-isms so well. Of course the silly lout in Wisconsin is responsible for the reprehensible behavior of the Government. Of course they are responsible for their shitty education. While juggling 2 jobs (though, to be fair, they aren’t ultra-shitty mine jobs… oh, wait, in WV they are). Yeah – those dumb Americans.

You prove one doesn’t need a US passport to be an American – blowhard and blaming, that’s America all right. Weird how Kurt Vonnegut was American, or Ginsberg, or Lysander Spooner or Thoreau… weird how so many fought along side the communists and the anarchists in Fascist Spain.

This is what you sound like: “Those idiot South Americans just sit there and let the US government do whatever they want. They are so ignorant they can’t even take control of their own country. Backwater bumpkins should go to school and learn to read! Except, when 15% of Americans live below the poverty level, 22% of children, you might put aside your blind nationalistic hatred and recognize the people of America suffer under their own Government as much as other countries. Want a war zone? Check out LA for the last 20 years – over 10K murdered since 1985, Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, take a look at New Jersey’s Ghettos. You might as well be getting all uppity at the Chileans or the Argentinians for not getting rid of their American Supported Dictators as you are at the Americans for not getting rid of their “legally” imposed dictators.

Wanna help? Quit bitching about the stupid cows in the field waiting for their day to get slaughtered and get over there and help them out. Worried you wouldn’t be “allowed” to affect change? Welcome to America.

The NY Times is US state propaganda, RT is Russian state propaganda, the BBC is British state propaganda, most major US news outlets are editorial arms of other major conglomerates (e.g. NBC/MSNBC and GE)…

All of it has to be viewed or read critically, because everyone has a story they’re trying to sell you.  Sometimes there’s open bias, sometimes the stories themselves aren’t particularly biased but the bias is expressed through the selection of which stories to publish.

Embarrassment is a long-established criterion for textual analysis.  If you start with the assumption that everybody would like to hide something, which is plainly true, and put it in the global context of what everybody else is trying to hide, you can probably come to a reasonable approximation of the truth.

        Cui malo?

What is really going on at those Muslim protests. Why have there been zero protests where the protests will impact multi-national corporate profits. Why haven’t those so called enraged Muslims attempted to block the oil flow to the west in their so called uncontrolled rage.
The whole thing is starting to really pick up the stench of contrived divide and conquer media event.
