Capuchin Monkey Rejects Unequal Pay, Goes on Strike

Dutch primatologist Frans de Waal screens a video depicting what happens when a Capuchin monkey suspects that it is receiving unequal “pay” for a task it was trained to perform. How much is our own sense of “fairness” genetically hardwired, and what does this imply for our dominant economic systems?

    I know I’ve hated unfairness since at least preschool, if not earlier. It just always seemed wrong, I don’t think it ever really had to be explained or rationalized to me, it was just innate.

    I love these monkey’s. They have provided so much insight into the effects of money on consciousness, that one day, hundreds of years from now, humans will realize from these studies, that in this era we knew what was causing our madness, but didn’t know how to stop it.

    I love these monkey’s. They have provided so much insight into the effects of money on consciousness, that one day, hundreds of years from now, humans will realize from these studies, that in this era we knew what was causing our madness, but didn’t know how to stop it.
