Einstein: ‘God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses’

Einstein’s “God Letter” is up for sale at auction. Any bidders? Jessica Ravitz reports for CNN:

Decades before atheist scientist and author Richard Dawkins called God a “delusion,” one world-renowned physicist – Albert Einstein – was weighing in on faith matters with his own strong words.

“The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends,” Einstein wrote in German in a 1954 letter that will be auctioned on eBay later this month. “No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this.”

Dubbed Einstein’s “God Letter” by the Los Angeles-based auction agency that’s posting it online, the original document will be up for grabs starting Monday. The opening bid: $3 million.

The letter provides a window into the famed genius’s religious beliefs. Einstein wrote it to Jewish philosopher Eric Gutkind, one year before Einstein died, in reaction to Gutkind’s book, “Choose Life: The Biblical Call to Revolt.”…

Why god? Why only one god? Why not many different nice gods? What is the problem with many gods? When people prayed to many gods, they did not kill each other because of religion. All religions nightmare started from from imposing bible’s&koran’s god. Imposing by force and with blood. Why do we need worship god of “god’s chosen people”? Why do we need brainwash our kids teaching their history.
Lets worship Earth, Universe, Love, Wisdom, etc… We have our own forgotten history, so lets remember it.

that’s the problem right there.. worship isn’t good in any form.

being thankful for God’s support is a powerful tool, but widely misunderstood, to the point that it even evokes anger in some people. No one has spent more effort on everything you do and see than God, no one has done more good, no one has given you and everyone and everything you’ve ever known at all as much support as God tries to give you and everyone else every day of your life. but he does it whether you say thanks or not, like your Mom or your best friend, so it’s really not worth trying to argue people into liking God, worshiping God, or “paying” homage to God. but being thankful can be an empowering practice.

the forms in which words like God and Heaven are used nowadays is often far from the truth. that is how I understand Einsteins words. he often spoke of an unreachable God, a deep power underlying all things, but it had nothing to do with the bible or Moses on mushrooms. ;p

Many Gods? Really? You know I’m ready to trade my God in for a newer one. So, where would I go to shop for one? …and not too expensive.

That’s largely a true statement but the opposite is also true as Religion helps the war effort .. Einstein.

Its never been about a literal belief to those in power, it presents a question as to whether you are on board with a clandestine agenda or not.

I see the believe in God as a huge mental weakness. You are giving up responsibility to an imaginary entity. Or you’re crediting God with something that someone else, someone real did. Like these Facebook posts by Christians who have family member being treated for an illness. They say “Oh praise God he healed my Mother from X illness.” Oh, and the doctors didn’t do anything?  For fuck sake people, GROW UP!

And I have to deal with this same shit from my own mother. She had a herniated disc in her back. Then she had surgery, and when she recovered she told everyone that God had healed her. No he fucking didn’t, the surgery did! I don’t understand how these people attribute cause and reaction and human intervention as acts by a divine being. I JUST DON’T GET IT!!!Sry for the rant.

it’s cool dude you’ll get it someday.

there is a HUGE population of people that only regurgitate what they were taught about God by others rather than seeking things out for themselves. that does not however downplay the fact that God is real and that there are millions of godly beings beneath him, angels, bodhisattva, etc. We’re just low level and often don’t see the direct connection we all have to our original source. Back in the day a few people figured it out and it led millions down a messed up path of hocking stories back and forth at one another as word for word truth. God’s not judging or scolding anyone though, we’re all here to have fun and to grow; you don’t have to do a special dance or whatever on Sundays trust me.

I can heal people with headaches and pain and colds and easy stuff like that, a wart if I spend some time on it, just as anyone can, it’s really nothing special, most people just never try. and in the end that energy all originates from God as -everything- does, so if you wanna put it into words you can say God did it, and that’s really not incorrect. but if someone has a cut artery I would be a blathering idiot if I said I could use the power of JEEBUS to HEAL! and that person would die. doctors have a very real place in our world as long as they aren’t simple drug pushers. I wouldn’t be so quick to rule out a little nudge in the direction of healthy recovery from the power of love though.

It’s not the product of human weakness, but human hubris.  The thought the creator of the universe loves us so much and is interested in the minutiae of our everyday lives.  Humans just can’t accept we’re simply another species of animal, on one small planet in a limitless universe.

Opening bid $3 million?  People pay a lot of money for stupid shit.

One thing the fantasy world of American free-market capitalism has in common with Catholicism – it’s a destructive force that consolidates a lot of wealth into the hands of a few dainty assholes who like fancy slippers and drinking wine out of gold chalices.

     > The opening bid: $3 million.

    God placed the opening bid.
Satan thought it too rich for his taste.
Einstein is spinning in his grave because of this.
