NYPD Stop And Frisk: ‘For Being A F**king Mutt’

New York City’s racist stop and frisk police policy is the stuff of legend, but it’s never before been recorded so explicitly. Kudos to The Nation:

…In the course of the two-minute recording, the officers give no legally valid reason for the stop, use racially charged language and threaten Alvin with violence. Early in the stop, one of the officers asks, “You want me to smack you?” When Alvin asks why he is being threatened with arrest, the other officer responds, “For being a fucking mutt.” Later in the stop, while holding Alvin’s arm behind his back, the first officer says, “Dude, I’m gonna break your fuckin’ arm, then I’m gonna punch you in the fuckin’ face.”…

When are the people going to start arresting the cops? Can’t  wait to see the riot police  being cuffed and tasered.

So what would be the responsible thing to do here as citizens? I mean I no longer live in NY and I am sure Obama doesn’t care about this. So what’s the answer? who is pushing for this at the top and why?

The officers were trying to provoke a response. There are multiple reasons for this but the major reason being a way to settle any dissonance within themselves in what they’re doing. If they can provoke a response of any kind, which this type of treatment invariably does in many people, the officers can rest assured that the person being accosted deserved whatever treatment that was done to provoke the situation in the first place.

If you’re thinking that’s circular reasoning, it is. People don’t always think rationally. Its been related to me by people in law enforcement that is the thought process. A proper response, I’m told, is for a citizen to act properly cowed and non aggressive. The analogy as it was explained to me was the idea of a dog pack. If an alpha male approaches a lesser male then the lesser male should take the belly up position and/or not fight when the alpha attempts to mount them. If the lesser male doesn’t do that it is seen as a challenge and that lesser male is a threat. This was explained to me by an acquaintance in law enforcement who saw it as some kind of deep philosophical understanding of society. I’d laugh but it was just so disheartening to sit there and listen.

It appears I’m not because I can. But a little yellow bar at the top of the comment section says I am. Whatever.

You did not show proper obeisance and therefore disqus had to teach you a lesson.

That’s just it, not using disqus. I changed my IP and the message went away. Kind of weird.
