Tar Sands Pipeline Blockader Arrested for “Tresspassing” on Her Own Property

Remember, when Republicans mention “property rights,” they mean the rights of those with the most property.  Via Common Dreams:

Film actress Daryl Hanna was arrested in Texas on Thursday along with 78-year-old great-grandmother Eleanor Fairchild after they put their bodies in front of heavy logging machinery and refused to move.

The arrest took place on Fairchild’s own property, where Canadian pipeline company TransCanada is clearcutting forests to make a path for the southern portion of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline, designed to bring tar sands oil from Alberta to Texas refineries.

Daryl’s involvement in the Fairchild Farms story brought a cascade of media attention to the Tar Sands Blockade which has been ongoing for nearly two weeks in east Texas.

“How can you be arrested for “trespassing” on your own land?” asked members from Tar Sands Blockade in a statement. “Well, anything can happen when a multi-national corporation comes in and expropriates your farm for their profit.”

    Well done Daryl !

The one thing the environment destroyers hate the most is attention at what they’re doing.  When experts pointed out that a rash of mini earthquakes in Texas all seemed to happen in the area where widespread FRACKING was underway, a host of “experts” emerged from nowhere, questioning the connection, raising obfuscations, disinformation, absurdity, anything at all to attention away from the likely culprit.

Likewise with industry spouted utter nonsense like “clean” (guffaws welcome) coal and “job producing” natural gas.  Enough is enough.   Sometimes all it takes is an actress and a grandmother to stand in front of the machinery and say no!

    Again… well done… and thanks !

We and Daryl and Eleanor are each of us ONE from MANY !   That’s the part the corporatistas don’t know and don’t want you to know.

I remember watching the first 24 minutes of the presidential debates before I got too angry to watch them anymore.  They both ignore the fact of global warming so completely its uncanny.  Obama just doesn’t have the balls to talk about WHY he has some relic of environmental policy in energy concerns.  Global warming: the story of the millennium!  Oh how posterity will wonder at our age!

I hate to vent in an unrelated forum, but holy shit nothing gets my goat more than Romney talking about increasing military spending more than it already was going to be increased.  What an abyssal rationale, what an intellectual nematode  Sorry about that.

There are different perspectives in between, you know ? Not only believers and deniers.

Is Al Gore a good guy because he’s a believer in global warming ? ( as a result of human actions )

al gore is a corporatist who believes in the capitalisation of carbon markets. a vastly different thing than being an environmentalist.

Apparently the most use phrase at the debates was “I Agree” seriously WTF, continuously repeating that statement would get most high schoolers kicked off the debate team.
You have two supposedly opposing political leaders, who most leading viewpoint apparently is “I Agree”.
No wonder lying scum sucking shit eating mass media has conspired to third and fourth party candidates away from the debates and hidden like the didn’t exist.

Chinese villagers know how to deal with this.

Wukan, China: Kicking out the village leadership and electing new leaders doesn’t necessarily address that problem. Xiao Shu, an outspoken intellectual also known as Chen Min, believes real land reform is needed.

The fundamental problem remains rampant land seizures across China.
A recent survey by the Seattle-based Landesa research group
found 43 percent of Chinese villages surveyed reported land
had been taken by the state for non-agricultural purposes.
In one-fifth of cases, there was no compensation.
