Under Proposed Law, Masked Canadian Protesters Could Receive Ten Years In Jail

In surveillance states, concealing one’s face will be considered a significant crime. Via Russia Today:

Canadian lawmakers weren’t exactly in the Halloween spirit when they approved a new bill on Wednesday. The legislation makes it illegal to wear masks during riots and protests. If it becomes law, mask-wearers at riots face up to 10 years in jail.

Parliamentarian Blake Richards, who sponsored the bill, says the measure is aimed at targeting the “growing threat” of vandalism and violence. Lawmakers are particularly targeting the Blak Bloc anarchist group, whose members dress in black and hide their faces with glasses, scarves, and hoods. The group engaged in violence during the Quebec student protests earlier this year.

Protestors should overwhelm the courts with the wearing of masks 3 o 4 thousand people at one time wearing masks would really screw up their plans.

What if a protest is on Halloween night?

If Wavy Gravy dresses up as a clown to avoid getting the shit kicked out of him by the Canadian police during a peaceful protest, he is technically permitted to do so. But if the protest turns into, or is later deemed by the authorities to be a violent riot, although Wavy did not participate in the violence, he goes to klink for a long time if he gets picked up by the mounties. The Canadian government is ultimately going to face a lot of law suits and further jamming up of their court systems with this soon to be law. It appears that wearing a mask or disguise isn’t a crime in of itself at a protest or even a riot, but being arrested in one is. Again, the Canadian government is just looking to give their judges something to further moil over, waisting their judges’ time and effort.

What if you wear a disguise so that you look like Canadian aboriginals and then stage attacks on shipping to protest taxes? Then in a couple hundred years your ideas can be hijacked by douchebags like the “Tea Party”.
