Human Devolution, Israel & Palestine: A History of Occupation

On this episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin talks to RT Producer Adriana Usero, about human beings becoming dumber and if the US Government using political tactics of the Roman empire to distract from current events. Abby then takes a look back at the historical events that have shaped the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as we know it today. BTS wraps up the show with an in depth interview with Phyllis Bennis, Director of the New Internationalism Project at the Institute for Policy Studies, about the current escalation of violence in Gaza, and factors that play a role in the conflict.

…An old man in Gaza held a placard that read: “You take my water, burn my olive trees, destroy my house, take my job, steal my land, imprison my father, kill my mother, bombard my country, starve us all, humiliate us all, but I am to blame: I shot a rocket back.”

Should have accepted partition in 1947… they have only themselves to blame.

According to Wikipedia only 3.5% of the Palestinian population are aged 65 or over, and are therefore old enough to have been alive at the time. Surely you don’t think it’s right that people should suffer for their (mostly dead) grandparents’ / great-grandparents’ judgement?

that’s a pretty blatant spinjob Abby does there with the “history of the Israeli Occupation”. She totally glosses over the fact that those Arab neighbors that suffered at the hands of Israel in 1967 actually launched the attack against Israel in the first place. Israel is not innocent and I’m not a fan of their policies, but at least tell the truth. Things over there are difficult to untangle as it is, we don’t need all this extra propaganda. The truth is damning enough to Israel. I guess Abby is my generation’s Tokyo Rose.

pretty tragic stuff no matter how you cut it
    but
for the last few thousand years of recorded history
that little piece of sandy rocky soil
has been a football being fumbled by one group after another
always being dominated by an Imperial power
while little fiefdoms vie for territory
