The new figures reveal that the lightsabre-wielding disciples are only behind Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism and Buddhism in the popularity stakes, excluding non-religious people and people who did not answer.

Anyone read the Irish Times summary of census results in the north of Ireland? The gap between Catholics and Protestants narrowed to 3% from nearly 10% ten years ago, BUT . . .

The single largest growth in any religious grouping were ‘non-aligned’ and ‘non-religious’–which increased by nearly 50% since the last census!

Defections seem pretty evenly split between the traditional confessional groupings, judging by comparative figures for the prior census.

    • As a person who lives in Northern Ireland I must say that this can only be a good thing. Personally I have no religion so I don’t class myself as Protestant or Catholic and being one with friends from both sides of the community I can only see this as a great step forward. Hopefully the troubles are far far behind us.

It occurs to nobody that selecting Jedi is synonymous with “None of your damn business” for many?
