Confessions of an Economic Hitman, Justice for Rachel Corrie

On this episode of Breaking the SetAbby Martin interviews John Perkins, economist and author of ‘Confessions of an Economic Hitman’, about how corporations are determining the world order, and how assassins take out those who challenge the system. Abby wraps up the show with a discussion with Cindy and Craig Corrie, parents of slain activist Rachel Corrie, about their case against the Israeli government and their fight for social justice worldwide through the Rachel Corrie Foundation.

Labor leaders and environmental activists in “developing” nations get assassinated on a shockingly frequent basis.

This phenomenum deserves serious study. I’ve read some papers to the effect that the defective gene that causes popular activism is also responsible for a pronounced weakening of the vertebra nearest the base of the skull, causing an alarmingly high incidence of “spontaneous decapitations.”

    • They used to be labelled communists or socialists agitators, now they are conveniently labelled Al Qaeda LOL. It’s the same script with different characters names and stage settings is all.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the similarities between Vietnam in the 60s and Mali today. A ‘former’ French colony is headed in an inconvenient direction. Lo and behold, BAD GUYS. The French re-invade. The US helps its allies with ‘tactical support’. Time will tell just how far the repetition goes. AFRICOM seems to think pretty far.

  3. The there is the other side of Perkin’s shady past, ala Jeff Wells and his Rigorous Intuition Blog.

  4. These same charges have also been leveled against the architects and instigators of the balkan civil war and Kosovo conflicts, with Milosevic and others being useful idiots (and also in reality very ruthless sociopaths and breeders of ethnic hate) and patsies for fake Bosnian atrocities which were conducted by imported Al Qaeda fighters. I think Pilger and a couple others dug up dirt on this a while back, with all kinds of UN documents and rumors about cover ups of Russian, Isreali, US, UK and French arms that were flowing into the former Yugoslavian states, along side foreign fighters from Afghanistan. Pakistan etc. The big issue was that Milosevic and others would not let western corporations in to turn the region into a end game capitalism style oligarchy where business interests would in effect run the region. Not too different from Freidman’s much hated quote about the third world having a choice, McDonalds or F16’s.

  5. Steve Hughes has a standup comedy bit that makes the same points about foreign policy as John Perkins.
