From the Editor’s Desk: Thanks for Your Support, Disinfonauts

Dear Disinfo readers,

With the passing of 2012 – and all of us survivors still recovering from our obsidian knife wounds from December 21 – I wanted to take a moment and thank you all for the unbelievable patience and support that you’ve shown me here.

I’ve been a fan of the Disinformation Company for many years, and coming to work here has been both a dream come true and a huge responsibility. Preserving the Disinfo legacy while preparing for its future is a balancing act, and one that I cannot do without you. The community here has shown incredible grace and good humor as I work to find a good mix of controversial, entertaining and just plain odd content. You’ve been forgiving of my missteps and experiments (may we all remember with a mix of fear and amusement the last weeks of 2012 as The Era of the Midnight Video  Onslaught), and in short, you’ve made me feel at home while I’ve learned the ropes.

I would be lying if I told you that there won’t be further missteps in the future, but I hope that there will also be times of wonder, bewilderment and illumination ahead. I want to do my very best to entertain you and make your visits here worthwhile. I’ve gotten to know many of you as friends – and a few as valuable noble adversaries – and with this in mind, I hope to repay your confidence in spades.

My “door” is always open, and I’m always eager to hear from you with story ideas and other matters of importance. I’d also be delighted if any of you are interested in contributing content to the site.  Feel free to email me any time you like at matt AT disinfo DOT com.

Once again, thank you very much for the kindness and patience you’ve continued to show “the new guy”.

    I’ve really enjoyed a bunch of your interviews – Daniele Bolelli in particular. I picked up his book On The Warrior’s Path after your interview and he’s become a favorite.

    Took me a while to stop being cranky over the disappearance & death of the previous Disinfocast and to download the new ones, but I’m glad I did.

      Ha, yeah. I expected a lot of angry listeners. It’s a format change…and who the hell is this new guy, right? I remember Colin Quinn did a little bit about that kind of situation when he replaced Norm MacDonald on SNL’s Weekend Update. I can’t find the original video (thanks NBC), but here’s the line: “Have you ever gone to a bar and found that your favorite bartender was replaced with a guy named Steve? Well I’m Steve, what can I get you?” Hopefully, I’ll be your favorite bartender one day. ;)

    Gary Baddeley of disinfo.com needs to fire Matt Staggs, disinfo “Staff Stalker”

    Matt Staggs claims on the basis of _three_ tweets to his twitter account that I am “harassing” him. These tweets were harmless and not in any way menacing or demeaning. They constitute ALL the contact I have _ever_ had with Mr. Staggs. He claimed I was emailing him, but recanted that lie. Matt has threatened me with 1. anonymous hackers 2. a “deathsquad” 3. outing or “doxing” my IP # and personal information he gleaned from his access to the disinfo.com servers. He has made specific threats of violence and started a large campaign of libel and harassment against my person, with the help of documented stalkers Rachel “Haywire” Mendelson, David “Lefty Schlesinger” aka “stonemirror” and Vanessa Tanith Vanalstyne-Hawkins. It is beyond the pale for an employee of disinfo.com to be allowed to abuse his position in this manner, harvesting and using readers’ IP numbers to make threats of violence! Read the twitter below, mass bogus complaints engineered by Staggs got twitter to temporarily suspend the account. This is under appeal. Matt Staggs is an unstable, juvenile personality who should not be employed in any circumstance where he has access to customer data that he can abuse. Please, Gary Baddeley, do the right thing and remove Matt Staggs from his position as “editor” of disinfo.com based on his gross breach of business ethics, his stalking, and his frankly insane public behavior.
