Climate Foes Dispute UN Report On Sun’s Role In Global Warming

The sun1Trust Fox News to be in the lead on showcasing climate skeptics delight at a leaked report from the United Nations suggesting that the Sun may be a larger factor in global warming than most scientists have admitted to date:

The Earth has been getting warmer — but how much of that heat is due to greenhouse gas emissions and how much is due to natural causes?

A leaked report by a United Nations’ group dedicated to climate studies says that heat from the sun may play a larger role than previously thought.

“[Results] do suggest the possibility of a much larger impact of solar variations on the stratosphere than previously thought, and some studies have suggested that this may lead to significant regional impacts on climate,” reads a draft copy of a major, upcoming report from the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The man who leaked the report, StopGreenSuicide blogger Alec Rawls, told that the U.N.’s statements on solar activity were his main motivation for leaking the document.

“The public needs to know now how the main premises and conclusions of the IPCC story line have been undercut by the IPCC itself,” Rawls wrote on his website in December, when he first leaked the report.

Rawls blames the U.N. for burying its point about the effect of the sun in Chapter 11 of the report.

“Even after the IPCC acknowledges extensive evidence for … solar forcing beyond what they included in their models, they still make no attempt to account for this omission in their predictions. … It’s insane,” he told

Some skeptical climatologists say that the statement in the U.N. draft report is important, but not game-changing.

“The solar component is real but not of sufficient magnitude to have driven most of the warming of the late 20th century,” Pat Michaels, the former president of the American Association of State Climatologists, and current director of the Center for the Study of Science at the Cato Institute, told…

“Climate Foe”… regardless whether you agree on the theory of man-made global warming or not, that’s a silly term.

  2. Many of us have been saying this all along including Alex Jones. Now we need to draw the distinction between man-made – SUVs and personal global footprint – and man-made – Carbon fired power plants and Corporate irresponsibility. Just as we CANNOT blame homeowners for the bailout when it was the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act of the New Deal that opened the door to gross misbehavior on the part of the bankers, we also cannot blame SUV owners for the fact that the new power plants going up in China and Asia are allowed to pollute as much as they care to, with more of the same going up every day.

Personally, I am tired of the slight of hand and misdirection that is applied to everything the public sees or hears these days. The advertisers and the politicians speak to us like we are twelve, and we respond as though we were. Prime example; Big Bird during the last election, while Ron Paul was waiting in the wings with real answers to at least some of our problems. Enough of being “managed” as a people.

    • These issues are always framed in a way to disempower the action of individuals. That’s the whole scheme–to make you think you are powerless so you keep voting to get someone else to make decisions for you, and keep using their toilet paper Fed notes to restrict the perception of the scope of your own actions. It’s a double whammy.

Amen, but we need to stop it. Amen meant in the broadest non-religious sense possible of course.

  3. “Various independent measurements of solar activity all confirm the sun has shown a slight cooling trend since 1978.”

Obviously the Sun is an ally to the Liberals in their war on Fiscal Conservatism and Christmas! As soon as St. Sarah Palin is elected in 2016, WE WILL NUKE THE SUN! FOR AMERICA!

The war on the Earth has been insanely profitable and a million Earths could fit in the sun. I hear it has a lot of energy reserves and no free market. Now we just need to find some organizational authority to bribe and some peasants to enslave, and we’ll have ourselves a proper war.

Hopefully the moon nazis stay out of things.

Here, here! Harrumph, harrumph. Hey, I didn’t get a harrumph from that guy in the corner.

You just said a lot in one little paragraph.

  5. Climate change as a political and economic ‘issue’ is ridiculous. They frame it as a problem so it can divert our attention from the real problem–our industrial food system. ALL of our problems come from the way we feed ourselves. Every other problem is simply a derivative.

    • BuzzCoastin | Feb 3, 2013 at 8:03 pm |

as you know, the industrial food system eventually fails
leavening behind the resulting dessert & famine
when that happens in Amerika, it will be blamed on the climate
and not on Monsanto farming methods

As soon as carbon tax advocates universally declare that 100 percent of the billions of dollars in potential revenue are to be used strictly for research and development of carbon-free energy alternatives, I’ll be 100 percent in favor of the anthropogenic global warming theory. I would welcome the phasing out of dirty carbon based fuels. Otherwise, it is just another invented crisis to make money.
They have all sorts of ideas on how to spend it, such as deficit reduction, but that won’t solve the alleged problem. I am sure that all of man’s activities affect climate to some degree, such as deforestation reducing our oxygen supply and reducing atmospheric water vapor due to reduced transpiration, but I believe there are financial incentives that support the anthropogenic CO2 climate influence theory. If the problem were to be solved, the carbon tax revenue stream would dry up, so a new crisis would have to be invented in order to collect a new tax, keeping the bureaucrats in business.

We’re at solar maximum right now and our memories are short, so of course the sun’s activities have some influence on climate. In a billion and a half years, more or less, the sun will be too hot for liquid water to exist on earth, so the sun does, indeed, influence climate here. Just because it’s 96 million miles away doesn’t mean it has less influence than human activities.

    • “In a billion and a half years, more or less, the sun will be too hot for liquid water to exist on earth” !! WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?! Why didn’t someone tell me sooner!! Time to get crackin!

And, there will be a great heat from the Sun which will scorch the people on Earth …

The people left on Earth will continue to hate and curse God.

“Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the Sun,

and power was given to him to scorch men with fire.

And men (mankind … men and women)

    were scorched with great heat,

and they blasphemed the Name of God

    who has power over these plagues;

and they did not repent and give Him glory.”

    (Revelation 16:8-9)

The Bible warns of great atmospheric and weather upheaval during the coming “Apocalypse” … both global cooling and global warming lie ahead for mankind (men and women) … all those who are left on Earth after the coming “Rapture” …

There will be a great plague of snow and hail coming upon the Earth …

“Have you entered the treasury of snow,

Or have you seen the treasury of hail,

Which I (God) have reserved for the time of trouble,

For the Day of battle and war?” (the coming “Apocalypse”)

    (Job 38:22-23)

“And great hail from heaven fell upon men, (“Mankind”.. men and women)

each hailstone about the weight of a talent.

    (A “talent” = 85 – 114 pounds!!)

Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail,

since that plague was exceedingly great.”

    (Revelation 16:21)
