Well, coming from not far from the tri-cities in WA (the closest “cities” near Hanford), I can tell you that people are more interested in cheap rent than health. I can’t say they like it, but as you could guess, price of land there is CHEAP. And that is the very reason people move there.

I wonder how much cancer and anomalous births they have near there?

    For echar.

I grew up there. Even went to Hanford Highschool! The ongoing clean up out at the area is a pretty complex, unfortunate and serious matter. But in terms of birth defects and cancer issues related to the presence of waste and its effect on the surrounding population…well I think you would be hard-pressed to find many instances of that kind of thing. There have been a few cases brought against the gov in the past (see: “downwinders”) but not really in the way you seem to be referring to. This Abby Martin piece (like most of her pieces unfortunately) is pretty alarmist and surface level. That’s the reason I can never get down with “Breaking the Set”. It watches like Fox News for Oliver Stone fans. Hanford is a pretty crazy place that more people need to be made aware of. But I hope they don’t start with this piece on their information seeking journey.
