Obama, Biden Welcome Pope Francis / FEMEN Protests

In 2012, POUS said “I think same-sex couples should be able to get married” on “Good Morning America.” Then in the 2013 State of the Union, “restore the basic bargain that built this country… get ahead… no matter who you love.”

In February a Vatican Archbishop defined marriage “only between a man and a woman” and likened same sex marriage to a “sick egalitarianism.”

NARAL had endorsed Obama’s 2012 reelection, describing him as “pro-choice” on NARAL.org. On Nov 7th, Reuters reported on a statement to the president-elect about promoting “a culture of life” from the Vatican.

It’s perhaps unsurprising that activist group, FEMEN–which identifies as an “international women’s movement” based in Ukraine–protested in Vatican City on Tuesday (from RT.com). A video shows a protester shouting “Pope No More!”

NSFW!

More surprising is that Joe Biden will “lead the U.S. delegation to next week’s formal installation of Pope Francis” (from CNN.com).

Biden is quoted:

“The Catholic Church plays an essential role in my life and the lives of more than a billion people in America and around the world, not just in matters of our faith, but in pursuit of peace and human dignity for all faiths.”

President Obama congratulated Pope Francis with, “I look forward to working with His Holiness to advance peace, security, and dignity for our fellow human beings.”

The use of “dignity” may allude to the aforementioned topics.

Same sex marriage might not be ‘sick’ (at a personal level, who cares?), but it makes no sense. Gets me how many people cherry pick science to bash Christians etc but ignore science when it contradicts their own beliefs. Sociobiologically, the claim that marriage is about love and not procreation is ass backwards.

As for abortion, I’m not one of those hardcore pro-lifers but anyone who kills their own offspring simply for a lifestyle choice should be shot. Besides, even the ‘zygote personhood’ perspective makes more sense than leftists are willing to concede. Philip K Dick demonstrated the arbitrariness of delayed personhood with his story of abortion trucks and algebra. Which is not to say that all delayed personhood perspectives are equally absurd, in particular before the blastocyst stage, it is extremely difficult to respect ‘preborn’ human tissue as persons in the way that legal definitions demand. (Incidentally, contrary to that pothead Sagan, there is thus a natural difference between tissue samples on a petri dish and a human individual.) But my point is that, although sensible people should be able to discuss things such as abortion without American style hyperbole and hysteria, a perspective as selfish and antisocial as that of outright choicetards, should never have been tolerated within mainstream politics in the first place.

As for church and state, not for London or for Rome…
