Black 14-Year-Old With Puppy Choked By Miami-Dade Police Over ‘Dehumanizing Stares’

Racism or just cowardice?  Via the Huffington Post:

Miami-Dade Police says officers were forced to throw a beach-going 14-year-old to the ground and forcibly restrain him because of clenched fists and “dehumanizing stares,” as first reported by CBS Miami.

But Tremaine McMillian says he was merely walking along the beach on Memorial Day, feeding his puppy from a bottle, when police overreacted. Cell phone video shot by his mother shows the unarmed teen pressed to ground at Haulover Beach as one police officer holds his forearm across McMillian’s throat and another places him in handcuffs.

“He started choking me, and as he was choking me, I urinated on myself because I couldn’t breath,” the teen told WSVN.

McMillian’s family told news outlets they were enjoying the beach when the officers took exception to the way the teen had been roughhousing with a friend in the surf. McMillian says the officers drove up on an ATV and confronted him before leaping off and choking him.

Life Is a Video Game

33ah0cn.jpg

There are many metaphors for what life really is, but foremost in the big smarty pants community is the idea that life is a computer simulation.  There happens to be a good amount of information that leads us to believe this is possible and the Edge Bros. are making a film about it to make the idea easier for the Average Joe to swallow.  I found their indiegogo presentation to be amusing and informative.  Check it out for yourself and consider throwing a couple ‘coins’ their way.  Check out their crowd funding page here.

The Lesser Banishing Ritual Of The Pentagram

Incredibly cool animated video about how to perform the lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram. Now, it should be noted that coming more from the school of Chaos Magick, I’ve never actually done any of the traditional ceremonial magick stuff but I might give it a try someday if I have time. I took the basic principles and designed my own inner fixation incantations that have more meaning to me in particular. Does this ritual work? I have no idea, give it a whirl and let me know. ‘Tis far more technical than any of mine. I normally repeat major key guitar riffs I’ve written in my head until I feel the waves of invading negativity have subsided.

Should be noted that I dove into magick not thinking there was a necessity to banishing rituals and found out pretty quick that there absolutely is. In fact, if I was ever going to give advice to any aspiring mage, the first thing I’d tell them would be: make sure you come up with a good banishing ritual.… Read the rest

The Terror Of Stagnation: Gaahl Of Wardruna Interviewed

via The Quietus Gaahl_1369834444_crop_550x498

Dayal Patterson speaks to the enigmatic and iconoclastic Gaahl about the Runes, the difficulties of creativity and why he actually likes open-mindedness

With the majority of its key protagonists operating under pseudonyms and layers of monochromatic face paint – not to mention working within a genre that is inherently esoteric, fiercely independent and often vehemently opposed to mainstream exposure – it’s not surprising that black metal produces very few household names. Indeed, even within the parameters of the wider metal community only a handful of participants have really become anything close to recognisable – Varg Vikernes of Burzum for example, those larger-than-life characters from Immortal and, if we’re pushing the definition of ‘black metal’, perhaps the ever-provocative Dani from Cradle Of Filth.

Vocalist, clothes designer and occasional actor Kristian ‘Gaahl’ Espedal may not be likely to grace the covers of Q, NME, or even Metal Hammer any time soon, but there’s no doubt that his profile has been steadily on the ascent during the last decade.

Wall Street Investors Buying Up Entire Neighborhoods In Poorer Areas

wall street

Wall Street investment firms are eager to become your new landlord. New York Times Dealbook reports:

Large investment firms have spent billions of dollars over the last year buying homes in some of the nation’s most depressed markets. The influx has been so great, and the resulting price gains so big, that ordinary buyers are feeling squeezed out. Nationwide, 68 percent of the damaged homes sold in April went to investors, and only 19 percent to first-time home buyers.

Wall Street played a central role in the last housing boom by supplying easy — and, in retrospect, risky — mortgage financing. Now, investment companies like the Blackstone Group have swooped in, buying thousands of houses in the same areas where the financial crisis hit hardest.

Blackstone, which helped define a period of Wall Street hyperwealth, has bought some 26,000 homes in nine states. Colony Capital, a Los Angeles-based investment firm, is spending $250 million each month and already owns 10,000 properties.

Bradley Manning Is Guilty of “Aiding the Enemy” – If the Enemy Is Democracy

Bradley Manning US ArmyOf all the charges against Bradley Manning, the most pernicious — and revealing — is “aiding the enemy.”

A blogger at The New Yorker, Amy Davidson, raised a pair of big questions that now loom over the courtroom at Fort Meade and over the entire country:

*  “Would it aid the enemy, for example, to expose war crimes committed by American forces or lies told by the American government?”

*  “In that case, who is aiding the enemy — the whistleblower or the perpetrators themselves?”

When the deceptive operation of the warfare state can’t stand the light of day, truth-tellers are a constant hazard. And culpability must stay turned on its head.

That’s why accountability was upside-down when the U.S. Army prosecutor laid out the government’s case against Bradley Manning in an opening statement: “This is a case about a soldier who systematically harvested hundreds of thousands of classified documents and dumped them onto the Internet, into the hands of the enemy — material he knew, based on his training, would put the lives of fellow soldiers at risk.”

If so, those fellow soldiers have all been notably lucky; the Pentagon has admitted that none died as a result of Manning’s leaks in 2010.… Read the rest
