Could Golden Dawn Bring a New Wave of Eco-Fascism from Greece to the US?

150px-Chrisi_Avgi_Logo.svgPanagioti writes at the Earth First! Newswire:

In times of social upheaval, it seems a given that the far-right elements of an industrial empire will present themselves as a counter force in an attempt to allure some of the righteously indignant and, often painfully ignorant, folks who perceive themselves as a “middle class” in need of protection and salvation.

That is undoubtably the case with Greece today, where  members of the neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn have begun firmly establishing themselves in political office, in the ranks of law enforcement, and now, with a larger street presence than ever before.

Golden Dawn is not only using KKK-style social services such as Greeks-only food banks and blood drives to bolster support, they also have a “Green Wing” attempting to propagate eco-fascist ideology among the country’s growing radical environmental movement.

Newsflash for all the anti-fascists eco-revolutionaries out there who are itching to get their hands on some of these assholes: you may be in luck, ’cause they don’t appear to be staying put in the Mediterranean.

Last week, for the fifth time in a year, members of Golden Dawn have made their presence known in US.

The most recent incident occurred on May 25, 2013 at the Stathakion Cultural Centre in Astoria, New York, during the screening of “Greek-American Radicals: The Untold Story”, a historical documentary about Greek immigrant’s experience in America, the role of immigrants in the radical labour movement and the journey from the early 20th century until the witch hunts of the McCarthy era.

Read more here.  And there’s an addendum:

Since posting the article “Could Golden Dawn Bring a New Wave of Eco-Fascism from Greece to the US?” last week, we received responses with some interesting article links that further elaborate on Golden Dawn’s disgusting and fraudulent use of ecology to promote white supremacy and general ass-kissing of the industrial right-wing elite.

Most recently, Golden Dawn members faked support for the popular anti-gold mining movement in northern Greece, and simultaneously forged relationships with mining companies. This link further explains (in Greek).

Another article link from last year in English, exposes the “Green Wing” of Golden Dawn in supporting the extermination of mental patients and the physically handicapped, perpetuating Hitler’s policies of genocide.

And finally, this link directs you to the site of publication “Ecology and Action,” Golden Dawn’s eco front group. Along the right side of this page, there is also links to several other European organizations using ecology (or a facade of it) to promote white supremacy and fascism. Most of the links lead to pathetic and/or outdated websites and Myspace pages. But still, it is helpful to know their rhetoric and to be able to identify it, in the case that it appears in your local scene, or website. (We suggest using a free translation service to get the general idea of what is being said.) And once again, you can witness several maddening efforts to co-opt Earth First!-esque images.

Great, as if it wasn’t hard enough to get people to give a shit about ecology, now we’ve got a bunch of fucking honest to god fascists using the cause to make themselves look less evil.
Stop the world please, I’d like to get off.

Most other political parties are fucking lazy though

      • no, they just don’t get the financial backing of the elite and the physical protection of the police. so other political parties must resort to other forms of direct action.

i hope the people downvoting dont see me as some fascist or racist or supporter of the policies the golden dawn has. but yeah they did not ride a wave of content . they rode a wave of malcontent , and that is why the other parties lost. simple as that.

          • I agree, but I don’t believe all other political parties are lazy. have you observed the anarchists in Greece, lately?
            (didn’t downvote, by the way)

you talking about the USA again?

All I have to say on this is that these groups get more shit done. A lot of people voting for them are not racist or share much of their ideology, but no other political party in Greece will fix shit. Who can blame them for voting for them. Isolationist policies might be good for Greece the same way Hitler could have been seen to be good for Germany

yeah it’s a tailored document as per usual, meant to induce a particular end game, like chess. no that’s a terribly inaccurate phrase. WWE. so really it’s all about accusers not identifying tu quoque e.g. a fascist response to fascism is ‘not fascism’. and of course everyone’s using “fascism doesn’t actually exist and isn’t clearly defined”. a bunch of green honor-less post-allies assuming they’re worth the win they’ve assumed (but don’t have)…and embodying it as the real fascists of the globe.

whatever the word is for “free loaders waiting for some plankton to float up on the waves so they can steal some” allied with “people and junk that make waves” … is what accusers stand accused of.

how to not lose? label a winner a criminal, cheater, or change rules in a place where there’s no rules anyway. bite your own tongue, hypocrites ..!.. (oh, was that ‘Crete’? ‘grate’.)

      Hindenburg vs fascism
…in the way you are the loser.
      …is an intellectual endeavor.
…to figure out how much of a blimp full of hot air someonething is.
…and how it abuses or is irresponsible with tu quoque.

…or you, reader(s), just reside in a movie and Shakespeare was correct.

is comparing Draconian to Fascism like the “oranges to pears” nonsense? ingenuity. lol. dead weight, mr. franklin. dead. w8

well neither of the other parties did waht the people thought was right. from what i understand of the situation in greece the golden dawn had more populist agenda , nothing to do with their racist or fascist ideology. i think they won despite it. is fair to say

You mean that a political party is getting behind the environment as a political ploy?!?!? I am shocked.

There’s a book on my wish list I’ve been meaning to read related to this topic:

How Green Were the Nazis?: Nature, Environment, and Nation in the Third Reich

Franz-Josef Bruggemeier (Editor), Mark Cioc (Editor), Thomas Zeller (Editor)

Fascism and environmentalism as bedfellows is not new.

Transnational corporations paying National Socialists to fight International Socialists. It’s 1929 all over again. The results are predictable and sad. Banksters win. You lose.

I’m a bit more concerned about the rise of the regular kind of fascism, to be honest, but that’s just me
