Seattle Woman Attempting To Survive On Sunlight And Water

live on sunlight

Is the plant diet the key to a higher plane of existence? Q13 FOX News Seattle reports:

Navenna Shine, the founder and subject of the Living on Light experiment, plans to spend the next four to six months living on only light, water and tea. While difficult, Shine hopes the body can be trained to live through the hardships of surviving without food.

Shine started the experiment in an attempt to follow a group of obscure Yogis, who for thousands of years have claimed the ability to live on light. Some who adhere to such practices are called “breatharians,” — someone who gains energy and sustenance strictly through air and sunshine — and Shine hopes to prove it is possible by living out the experiment.

She will film herself on eight cameras positioned throughout her house to ensure to herself and others she does not cheat. Shine called her attempt a “huge moment in history.”

According to Shine’s Facebook page, she was in her 32nd day without food Wednesday. She has lost more than 20 pounds since the experiment started.

As many as four “Breatharians” have died while attempting to live solely on light, reported.

  1. It may look like, but she’s no vegetable.

Yogis can claim whatever they like, but unless they have figured out how to magically pop some chloroplasts into their cells this just ain’t possible. Could it be possible that she’s made the typical New Age mistake of taking a metaphor literally? Nahhhhh. She eats sunlight for breakfast.

numberless are the mysteries of the world, and truth is stranger than fiction. generally if a tradition has existed for 50+ generations, I will vie that there “must be something to it.”

      • VaudeVillain | Jun 12, 2013 at 6:02 pm |

Could be that the “something to it” is that the people running the scam keep getting rich.

        Just sayin’…

        • kowalityjesus | Jun 12, 2013 at 7:24 pm |

tell that to the 12 apostles, whose fates ranged from pariahdom to crucifixion. incongruent, but more at what you are likely inferring.

          • VaudeVillain | Jun 12, 2013 at 10:26 pm |

Yeah, they definitely got the short end of the stick on that one. Fortunately for their followers, the getting crucified bit only lasted for a couple of Caesars, and in far less than 50 they went from getting tortured to death to running the joint… or, as a wise man once paraphrased it, running the scam and getting rich.

  5. I wonder what the difference is with this person and airbreatharians?

Not even plants live on just sunlight and water, they also absorb the nutrients from the surrounding soil.

      but modern industrial food
is mostly mineral & nutrition free

            well for me
            it’s early afternoon

my first cellphone was a Motorola Microtec Lite
it was space age technology in 1992
            recently I played around
with about 6 different developer phones
            but all production models
            all of them suck
I can’t believe what passes for “smart”

I agree that all the sugar makes you crave more sugar and thus eat more calories. I don’t think the GMO causes the weight gain in and of itself. It just makes the production of sugar cheaper.

          • BuzzCoastin | Jun 9, 2013 at 7:57 pm |

to my knowledge the GMO portion of HFCS
            doesn’t cause weight gain
            but that’s splitting hairs
since HFCS could hardly exist with GMO Grade#2 corn

            but I mention it because
most aMerkins seem to be oblivious
of how much GMO food they eat
            and how they eat it

      • David Duke-Astin | Jun 9, 2013 at 3:17 pm |

not really, there are nutrients in the industrial foods in the expected amounts (I’m afraid that’s Culture War food propaganda from Whole Foods and other marketers of overpriced food that makes snooty people think they are living better.) we just eat too much of the low-value foods as instructed to do so by the food pyramid (aka the wheat lobby), UDSA (aka the corn and dairy lobby), restaurants (the cheap meat lobby) and the culture war (the expensive vegetable lobby). Carrots and lettuce are less profitable than cake mixes. they make no effort to sell green beans as a sexy food (that would be potato chips and candy, apparently). the appalling volume of sugar added to nearly every prepared food and restaurant meal (Cheesecake Factory puts HFCS in their cocktails, their french fries and their salad dressing. everything at McDonald’s has added sugar – even the sausage) helps to deplete your vitamins and energy thus the highly coincidental selling of vitamin pills and fortified foods and countless stimulants. If the open market of sugar addiction is insufficient to keep your food industry and social-engineering-induced depression under control (enough to keep shopping, not enough to change your life), they very same conglomerates are only to happy to sell you the Big Food and Big Oil-derived drugs that will keep you from killing yourself before you have enough time to spend all of your earnings on End of Life expenses.

        • BuzzCoastin | Jun 9, 2013 at 7:28 pm |

There were plenty of studies in the 50’s & 60’s that substantiated a reduction in the vitamin & mineral content of industrial food. Do some research.

You also would do well to read about the water/soil/plant exchange process. Plant exchange capacity significantly effects plant participation in nutrient exchange and industrial farming restricts its nutrient uptake by disrupting the process.

Sugar is certainly a culprit, but if you want to be precise, there isn’t any one thing that has made nutrient intake lower and sugar intake higher. It’s all a part of the Sugar Coated aMerkin Dream Machine.

          • David Duke-Astin | Jun 12, 2013 at 7:42 am |

there is also plenty of research…uh…recently…not done by hippies….that proves that freshness is the key to preserving nutrients, not industrial farming.

          • BuzzCoastin | Jun 12, 2013 at 8:05 am |

exactly, anybody can say there’s a study

I’m sorry my friend but you might be wrong depending on how you define air and water. Aeroponic plants live without soil. “Air”/gasses can contain nutrients. So can water- look up hydroponic. The question in this case is what does “tea” mean. Teas can be extremely nutritious, for example: nettle, red clover, oat straw, and actually hundreds more. Tea is generally defined as infused or concocted plants. plants have nutrients and tea extracts them………

      • Anarchy Pony | Jun 8, 2013 at 2:46 am |

Okay, maybe I should have just said they require a nutrient source then. What are you? The semantics police? Also, who said anything about tea?

        • OregonIan | Jun 8, 2013 at 2:58 am |

Relax dude, I’m talking about the article and the wording that it uses. I agree, symantics are boring. But I think that we do have to pay special attention to symantics/word use because the media and anyone with an agenda will use words to manipulate their audience. It’s called marketing/public relations, but normal folks do it too without even realizing it because we all have an agenda……

        • charlotte9 | Jun 9, 2013 at 2:25 pm |

“Also, who said anything about tea?”

The article said she will also live on “tea”, the problem being that the word “tea” refers both to the plant known as “tea” and also literally any plant infusion in water…boiled carrot water could possible be called “tea”, although more accurately would be termed a tincture, because it is a root…

most people today eat way more than what is needed to live
the average aMerkin eats about 1500 lbs of food a year
if the industrial food had pre-industrial nutrition
and with the modern lifestyle free of heavy lifting
wee could live on less than half that

there is a prisoner named William Coleman in a Conn. prison
who has not eaten solid food since September 17, 2007
    and he’s still alive

    • OregonIan | Jun 8, 2013 at 2:28 am |

      “solid food”…….. blender……….
I think a true breatharian would live only on breath-
      no tea or water.

      • BuzzCoastin | Jun 8, 2013 at 2:35 am |

this dude is on a hunger strike in prison
        he’s not a breatharian
        periodically he’s force fed
he went a year without eating anything
but did drink water and juice

you can live a very long time without food
especially if you don’t have to exert yourself to survive
and assuming you’re reasonably healthy to begin with
but no can live without water for more than 3 days

        • Ittabena | Jun 8, 2013 at 2:37 am |

I added a 4 day grace period to avoid a sideshow argument breaking out.

            good point
but I’ve never had to test the limit

            and hope I never do

        • OregonIan | Jun 8, 2013 at 2:42 am |

          • BuzzCoastin | Jun 8, 2013 at 2:46 am |

            people live on juice alone
it’s the only food you need
            that’s common knowledge

            but my point was
see if you can get it this time
we eat way more than we need to survive

          • OregonIan | Jun 8, 2013 at 3:15 am |

I was only commenting about your prison example- not the other part where you point out the fact that Americans eat a shit load and don’t move their bodies. I agree. Happy? I hope we can still be friends.

          • BuzzCoastin | Jun 8, 2013 at 3:27 am |

            it’s possible
let me eat something and get back to you

          • OregonIan | Jun 8, 2013 at 3:32 am |

            buen provecho!

        • Anarchy Pony | Jun 8, 2013 at 2:43 am |

Well all you really need to stay alive is enough calories to maintain a livable body temperature, enough water to ensure cells have a medium to perform their various reactions, enough nutrients to maintain cellular integrity and enough oxygen to allow respiration. With just enough of each, a person can squeak by with surprisingly little. Of course it generally leaves one in a compromised and highly vulnerable state.

          • BuzzCoastin | Jun 8, 2013 at 2:49 am |

it doesn’t sound like fun to me
but obesity is the now an epidemic whirled wide
            killing more people than starvation
so maybe a little pushing towards the other extreme
            couldn’t really hurt

          • Not eating causes the body to eat muscle. One way to lose weight is to eat like a cow. Continuous high protein and low carb meals throughout the day. But I am pretty sure you know this.

      • Ittabena | Jun 8, 2013 at 2:35 am |

Yeah, but he would only be a breatharian for about a week. Gotta have water. Any survivalist knows that too well.

        • OregonIan | Jun 8, 2013 at 3:29 am |

agreed……..and???? So…..maybe this breatharian thing might not be t-t-t-true? Or maybe you could claim to not eat and be drinking badass nutritious teas or juices..back to the article people. Stop being defensive. please.

          • Defensive? I was trying to be humorous. I am very close to Seattle, and who cares what this woman thinks? We have more than our fair share of nuts around here. Ever seen Portlandia? Well it’s true here too.

Besides I was just responding to what you said. That is what we do on a discussion thread; discuss.

Are you sure that I am the one who is being defensive here, ’cause it seems…

A really interesting possible case of this, for real, is
Therese Neumann. Apparently a catholic saint of some kind. In “Autobiography of A Yogi” Paramahansa Yogananda devotes a chapter to her. She’s well known check it out………

She’s doing it wrong, anyway…she’d have to be meditating the entire time to keep her calorie-usage as low as possible…even talking on her video updates is probably using too many calories…

You know about Ukrainian Barbie (Valeria Lukyanova), right? She aims to one day give up her diet of only raw-fruit smoothies and become a breatharian…it’s a good thing she’s already into sleeping most of the day / astral projection / contacting her Pleiadian brethren / what-have-you… (I’m kinda obsessed with that nutty-nut-nut…she’s my favorite Reality-Internet star…)

So it is called “bigu” in Chinese Taoist alchemy — Yan Xin, the qigong master, had many students who went “bigu” and this was proven by peer-reviewed science published in chemistry professor Rustom Roy’s journal – that he was part of. Rustom Roy even held a science conference on bigu. Some speculated it was from gamma rays since qigong master Yan Xin was documented to create gamma rays as a byproduct of his energy transmissions. But qigong master Yan Xin didn’t think his energy itself was gamma rays. Anyway so I did achieve this “bigu” state – it’s called “converting jing to chi” in the internal alchemy training. I went 8 days on just half a glass of water. What happens is the body fills with electromagnetic energy — “bigu” means “energy feasting.” So then there is some sort of electrolysis through the brain – the pineal gland – and this somehow converts the hydrogen and oxygen to create water which then flows down from the brain into the mouth. So that’s the “Heavenly Pool” channel. Obviously this is very difficult and dangerous but it is possible. I mean the science study proved a lady went a few months with no food and she lost no nutrition so somehow the electrolysis process creates the necessary nutrition for the body.
