The Pinko Porno Conspiracy: ‘Perversion for Profit’

Perversion for Profit is a 1965 propaganda film financed by Charles Keating and narrated by news reporter George Putnam. A vehement diatribe against pornography, the film argues that sexually explicit materials corrupt young viewers and readers, leading to acts of violence and “perverted” attitudes regarding sex – including inclination toward homosexuality. Pornography is also painted as part of the Communist conspiracy and the motor behind the decline of Western civilization:

That’s a pretty sweet magazine collection. I’d risk catching communism or homosexuality for it.

Such a goldmine of midcentury fetish mags! Pretty sure I saw some Eric Stanton sketches that are completely new to me (12:21), and maybe even Betty Page (12:40)!

Those poor yet brave individuals who had to censor the pictures being paraded before our eyes. Surely they risked their souls, patriotism, sanity, and sexual arousal for the good of us all.

What a gem, thanks for sharing.

  • Antediluviancurrent

Cultural Marxism, always ready to make a buck out of perversion, ain’t it! I’ve always wondered how it must be to have your worldview being constituted around cognitive dissonance.

“America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold:
its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can
undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within.” Joseph Stalin

      • Antediluviancurrent

That horribly inaccurate analysis shows why Joseph Stalin was a dick.

        • Deteis

But he did live the American dream. As a young man he started at the bottom, robbing banks for the Bolshevik party like any other hard working youth. His eventual rise to power is a truly inspiring tale of a man who’s ambition brought him to the highest realms of success!

Whats more American than Joseph Stalin?

agent of the devil, par excellence…these days I would say you’re not far off.

Lucifer is a superior foil. Perhaps analogously to Judas, it is inevitable that an antagonist would arise, but woe to whomever that antagonist might be. And might I add, woe to whomever that antagonist might entice!

          • jnana

and who created the antagonist? and who created the whole game of protagonist/antagonist?
and for what? you will probably tell me free will. so, to the avg. Xian little innocent children are brutally tortured and suffer, and all of life is in the throes of suffering, so that we may enjoy free will. would the innocent children not constitute the definition of a sacrifice for this elusive free will? isn’t there no more need for a sacrifice?
and god being infinitely creative, couldn’t he have come up with some less horrific way of giving us free will?
am I not given this sense of justice by God Himself? Aren’t I judging creation by a Good God’s standards, by the gift of reason god has granted me? Should I ignore my sense of reason and justice so that my beliefs are in line with Orthodoxy? And just chuck it up to “the mystery”. Or could it be that orthodoxy is part and parcel of fallen creation?
It is the Christ in me that repudiates chaotic, irrational creation. And as much as I have the Christ in me I renounce creation for Actual Creation. Because God makes no mistakes.

          • kowalityjesus

Your response is very challenging and headstrong, and demands too many details for my time and capacity to respond to. I would state frankly that the idea of Orthodoxy being less relevant than it claims often clouds my mind; its explanations for worldly suffering, its refutation of anything but the accepted ritual, and its administrative disregard for crucial tenants of scripture, see Luke 22:25-26

This however does not strike down my fidelity. Clearly the body of the Church is composed of humans, the vicars of St Peter the fisherman; fundamentally as simple as their lay and pagan counterparts, but entrusted with the keys vested by Christ for the foundation of His Church; thus not without divine clout, but not without that sin endemic in a son of Adam.

The question of pain has ground to a halt many a system of belief; yet inevitably, as with anything given to a creature possessing free will, it represents a two-edged sword. I think CS Lewis handles it eloquently: “Indignation at others’ sufferings, though a generous passion, needs to be well managed lest it steal away patience and humanity from those who suffer and plant anger and cynicism in its stead…If the world is indeed a ‘vale of soul making,’ it seems on the whole to be doing its work.” Indeed isn’t it a paradoxical dichotomy that Christianity believes that poverty is blessed and yet it should be removed?

          • jnana

poverty being a blessing is not paradoxical to the dualist, gnostic Christian, because riches only lead to further attachment to matter, where as poverty and suffering can be transformed to be a blessing because it can draw one away from the world and towards the One, where neither moth nor rust corrupt.
In my opinion, Orthodoxy is not rational. But when Jesus’ teachings are seen in the context, in the light, of gnosis, the pieces of the puzzle fall into place and there is no longr any cognitive dissonance.

          • jnana

also, this “divine clout” you speak of seems kinda fickle and irrational. Not to mention, the many bizarre cults who claim “divine clout”.
you shall know them by their fruits, right?

I think that may be why jesus said, “blessed are the alone and chosen”

          • kowalityjesus

I thought of a clever analogy between Catholics and Americans: America was started by the founding fathers who wrote a guiding constitution rather limited in its extensiveness, just as Jesus founded the Church and left us rather few words from his earthly life to guide us. A line of elected officials has continuously kept office since the first American elections, like the vicar in Rome who was handed the keys. Does this mean that those currently in office are the people who the founding fathers would most approve of? Does that mean those currently in Rome are those who Christ would find most worthy? Not necessarily, but since theirs is the operative network left in place by the respective founders, our assimilation as individuals will not only ingrain legitimacy but also shape the direction of its tide.

Honestly, I can see that this argument is more against Catholicism than for it, but I obviously choose to call myself both Catholic and American regardless of the nasty details those organizations have on their record, because I see them as the way forward. I can see the existence of God outside the Church because I was not an atheist before I became a Christian, and thus I retain heretical beliefs which I simply do not talk about, but which flavors my orthodoxy. Regardless, I think the lives of the saints are a compelling enough argument for Orthodoxy.

          • jnana

no one outside the Spirit you can intimately commune with has a right to declare to you what is exactly right belief and right action. All must work out their own salvation and the church hinders more than they help. I have learned much from orthodox belief and believers(especially the actual Orthodox), but I am a free spirit of god and have direct access to the Holy Spirit without mediation from another person. They can help and guide and even channel God, but they have no authority to determine my salvation and my knowledge of God.

I believe Jesus was foreshadowing the rise of the “church” when he speaks in certain parables such as,

(Gospel of Thomas39) “The pharisees and the scribes have taken the keys of knowledge (gnosis) and hidden them. They themselves have not entered, nor have they allowed to enter those who wish to. You, however, be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves.”

            and also

(Gospel of Thomas102) Jesus said: Woe to the Pharisees, for they are like a dog lying in the manger of the cattle; for he neither eats nor does he let the cattle eat.

            New antagonists are indeed inevitable.
There are some great cannabinoid antagonists coming out.

I would say the descriptor “horribly innacurate” is absurd in the context of your sentence

My favorite attributable quotes from the Eastern front are:

Where can I sign up for this “Illustrated, detailed course in perversion” he speaks of?

  • HCE

“… leading to acts of violence and “perverted” attitudes regarding sex – including inclination toward homosexuality.”

That’s funny. This sounds just like the Republican party.

  • Ittabena

So, let me get this straight… Looking at pictures of naked women is going to make me want to look at pictures of naked men? Well if that is the case, at that point who cares whether I am Communist, I’ll have much bigger things to worry about. Anyone know how long this will take? Because I am 54 now and haven’t had any problem yet.

Wanna see nekkid pictures of the hooker that Charlie Sheen got tied up with? Yeah, you’re right. Who hasn’t seen Kacey Jordan nekkid.

I’ve often said that if I am reincarnated as a woman in my next life I will most certainly be gay since I can think of nothing uglier than a naked man. Sorry guys, don’t wait for me as a dancing partner.

A lot of Porn seems to have right wing sensibilities built in to it. Like sex is degrading, male dominated etc.

  • The Well Dressed Man

Did anyone else notice this film was funded by the same Charles Keating who rose to infamy with racketeering, fraud, and conspiracy convictions after the 80′s S&L scandal?
