Johnny Walker Scotch Roundhouse Kicks the Memory of Bruce Lee in Disturbing Advert

Bruce Lee was many things: An actor, philosopher, martial artist and international icon. What he wasn’t was a drinker. Lee completely abstaining from alcohol. So what better icon to reanimate to shill for scotch, right? I’m guessing that Johnny Walker’s execs must have had too much of their own product when they signed off on this one. I guess it’s no worse than the motorcycle insurance ad featuring the music of Duane Allman.

It Turns Out Satan Is Pro-Life

2802da9bbca77c969204b1da4725ab8bTim Stanley writes in the Telegraph:

Earlier this week, I wrote about pro-abortion activists chanting “Hail Satan!” in an effort to drown out a chorus of Amazing Grace at a rally in Texas. Tongue-in-cheek, I wrote, “I’m guessing that even the Horned One would regard association with the US abortion industry as bad PR.” I meant it as a joke but, er, it turns out I was right.

A writer at the WND website spotted that the UK Church of Satan Tweeted this after the story broke:

Unfortunate to see Satan’s name used in such a diabolical manner. Another example of what ‘Satanism’ doesn’t represent. #HailSatan

— UK Church of Satan (@UKChurchofSatan) July 3, 2013

Yep, it turns out that the UK Church of Satan is prolife. They later Tweeted, “Why wouldn’t Satanism be pro-life? What else is there? We are all free to make choices. Agreeable or not.

The Horrible Psychology of Solitary Confinement

isolation_by_neriak

Prison isolation is torture, and America, like many other things is the biggest proponent of it.

via Wired

In the largest prison protest in California’s history, nearly 30,000 inmates have gone on hunger strike. Their main grievance: the state’s use of solitary confinement, in which prisoners are held for years or decades with almost no social contact and the barest of sensory stimuli.

The human brain is ill-adapted to such conditions, and activists and some psychologists equate it to torture. Solitary confinement isn’t merely uncomfortable, they say, but such an anathema to human needs that it often drives prisoners mad.

In isolation, people become anxious and angry, prone to hallucinations and wild mood swings, and unable to control their impulses. The problems are even worse in people predisposed to mental illness, and can wreak long-lasting changes in prisoners’ minds.

“What we’ve found is that a series of symptoms occur almost universally.

Were Prehistoric Cave Painters High On Hallucinogenic Plants?

cave paintingsDo psychedelics produce the common shapes and patterns found in prehistoric cave art around the world? Alternet reports:

Prehistoric cave paintings across the continents have similar geometric patterns not because early humans were learning to draw like Paleolithic pre-schoolers, but because they were high on drugs, and their brains—like ours—have a biological predisposition to “see” certain patterns, especially during consciousness altering states.

This thesis—that humanity’s earliest artists were not just reeling due to mind-altering activities, but deliberately sought those elevated states and gave greater meaning to those common visions—is the contention of a new paper by an international research team.

Their thesis intriguingly explores the “biologically embodied mind,” which they contend gave rise to similarities in Paleolithic art across the continents dating back 40,000 years, and can also be seen in the body painting patterns dating back even further

“The prevalence of certain geometric patterns in the symbolic material culture of many prehistoric cultures, starting shortly after the emergence of our biological species and continuing in some indigenous cultures until today, is explained in terms of the characteristic contents of biologically determined hallucinatory experience,” the researchers hypothesize.

The DreaMTime Invasion- DMT and the Roots of Religion

285>_8471751Prepare to have your mind blown by a knowledgeable student of one of the worlds most interesting (and lesser known) DMT filled plant teachers- the Acacia….

“Join DMT-Nexus forum moderator NEN and experiential journalist Rak Razam in this revelatory interview exploring the entheogenic realms of DMT and ayahuasca & their connection to the Dreamtime Consciousness and the Global Shamanic Resurgence.

Listen here:

http://in-a-perfect-world.podomatic.com/entry/2013-07-07T03_05_22-07_00

Indigenous Australian culture is at least 60,000-100,000 years old. Hidden in the unbroken tradition are the shared roots of the Vedas, in which the Acacia (Khadira) was the Vajra, the weapon of Indra. The emergence of these plant teachers, and the passing on of indigenous knowledge could be seen to constitute a new reverse colonization of the modern world–the Dreamtime Invasion. “At the heart of indigenous philosophy is the Dreamtime. It is not the past, or the future, it is the eternal creation out of pattern in the Now.  The ‘dot’ patterns, the spirit worlds of the tryptamine space are always present, creating the external world.… Read the rest

Why the U.S. Government has such a hard-on for Edward Snowden

via chycho
snowden-378233-edward-snowden
It’s not the act of revealing secrets that has gotten Edward Snowden in trouble, after all, members of the Bush Administration did exactly that in the Plame affair as did members of the Obama Administration by leaking the drone memo. Leaking classified documents doesn’t always lead to prosecution, on the contrary, sometimes it leads to advancement of personal agendas:

“Does the rule of law demand that leaks of highly classified information be prosecuted? If so, John Brennan and many other current and former national-security officials had better be given orange jumpsuits. They weren’t even leaking to alert Americans to behavior that they found immoral. Often times, the U.S. national security establishment leaks to exploit a political advantage.”

The reason that the United States government is so adamant about getting their hands on Snowden is because, as Chris Hedges pointed out in “Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt” while discussing popular uprisings when referencing Victor Sebestyen’s book “Revolution 1989: The Fall of the Soviet Empire” in which he was chronicling the events leading up to the collapse of East Germany, the dissolution of the Stasi, and the fall of the Berlin Wall:

“This was the turning point, when the people knew that the regime lacked the will or the strength to maintain power.”

Three-Quarters Of All Smartphones Contain NSA Code In Operating System

androidGoogle confirms that Android phones come with “Security Enhancements” added by the NSA, Bloomberg reports:

Google spokeswoman Gina Scigliano confirms that the company has already inserted some of the NSA’s programming in Android OS. “All Android code and contributors are publicly available for review at source.android.com,” Scigliano says, declining to comment further.

Through its open-source Android project, Google has agreed to incorporate code, first developed by the agency in 2011, into future versions of its mobile operating system, which runs on three-quarters of smartphones [globally].

NSA officials say their code, known as Security Enhancements for Android, isolates apps to prevent hackers and marketers from gaining access to personal or corporate data stored on a device. Eventually all new phones, tablets, televisions, cars, and other devices that rely on Android will include NSA code, agency spokeswoman Vanee’ Vines said in an e-mailed statement.

In a 2011 presentation obtained by Bloomberg Businessweek, the NSA listed among the benefits of the program that it’s “normally invisible to users.” Vines wouldn’t say whether the agency’s work on Android and other software is part of or helps with Prism.
