The Rapper Formerly Known As Mos Def Undergoes Force-Feeding In Protest Of Guantanamo

The pressure is being mounted on President Obama to take steps to end the force-feeding of hunger-striking prisoners at Guantanamo Bay. Wondering just how brutal force-feeding is? Yasiin Bey (better known as Mos Def) collaborated with the human rights organization Reprieve and filmmaker Asif Kapadia to document himself actually undergoing the procedure, in accordance with the standard operating guidelines found in leaked military documents. The resulting four-minute film is extremely disturbing:

    Well that was weird…

Any medical professional who force feeds a protester at the behest of the US government has violated every notion of “medical ethics.”

who said its done by a medical professional? Its done by soldiers who have been trained in medical procedures…they didn’t take the Hippocratic Oath. They took the oath of Enlistment which states “…and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.” (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).”

It’s done by doctors and nurses who also happen to be in the military.

Force feeding is also torture according to the UN (though the US conveniently redefines torture to be “those thing which we would not engage in, so things we do absolutely cannot be torture”) and the World Medical Association.

They are following what is an illegal & immoral order in addition to ignoring their medical ethics.

Okay, so either he is a big old wussy or he’s consciously playing this for max drama. I have put a NG tube into very ill 80 year old ladies who tolerated it with barely a wince. Nobody likes it, but few people have to have therapy over it. It’s not torture, though Guantanamo MDs certainly have facilitated torture in other forms.

First of all, if i was a protester, this would make me want to eat, so that would be the end of that. Second, try getting a urinary catheter stuffed in your penis at the age of 13, than we can talk about torture.
