“Art is a Religion”: an Aesthetic-Esoteric Manifesto by Joseph Péladan

Sasha Chaitow, founding director of the Phoenix Rising Academy, and PhD candidate at the Centre for the Study of Myth at Essex College in the UK, has recently shared a fine selection of translated writings from the 19th century French Symbolist, artist and novelist Joseph Péladan. Aside from the beautiful translation, it reads like a hymn to creativity; and for you magickal artists out there, I think it might strike a resonant chord with the arguably hidden meaning and occult purpose behind creative our endeavors.

Here’s an excerpt from her translation:

EXHORTATION

Artist, you are a priest: Art is the great mystery and, if your effort results in a masterpiece, a ray of divinity will descend as on an altar. Artist, you are a king: Art is the true empire, if your hand draws a perfect line, the cherubim themselves will descend to revel in their reflection. Spiritual design, a line of the soul, form of understanding, you make our dreams flesh.

Who Are The Experts Urging Us To Bomb Syria?

Waterwheels_in_Hamma,_SyriaLawyers, Guns & Money points out that we should no longer be listening to these people:

The Weekly Standard has an open letter explaining that blowing up lots of stuff in Syria is a great idea: The signatories on the letter addressed to President Obama inlcude Senator Joe Lieberman, Bernard-Henri Levy, Karl Rove, Bill Kristol, Elliott Abrams, Leon Wieseltier, and many others.

The “other people” include Max Boot, Paul Berman, Dr. Clifford D. May, Marty Peretz, and Danielle Pletka. I suppose it’s not literally true that the endorsement of these people means that bombing and/or invading Syria is a bad idea, but…let’s just if there was some way of betting that these people would be wrong you could be living in your own $32 million apartment complete with $160,000 wine cellar and million-dollar apartments for your many domestic servants.

NSA Doesn’t Think Parody Shirt is Funny; Wants Sales of it Banned

NSA-Listens-Shirtmock-620x412“It’s not funny, you guys!”, the NSA shrieks while wiping its tear and snot streaked face into the American flag…

Via Salon:

Two days after the world learned the National Security Agency logs practically every American phone call, the agency had started cracking down on entrepreneurs who made fun of it.

That’s according to Dan McCall, founder of politically themed T-shirt company Liberty Maniacs.

On June 5, the Guardian posted the first of many documents, leaked by former contractor Edward Snowden, that detail NSA‘s spy practices. Two days later, McCall put up a handful of T-shirts and bumper stickers for sale on the custom goods marketplace Zazzle, which distributes most of Liberty Maniacs’ goods. Each of those items had the NSA logo, plus a common joke as a slogan: “The only part of the government that actually listens.”

“Within an hour or two,” as McCall told the Daily Dot, Zazzle emailed him to say the shirt had been removed from the Zazzle site.

I. Introduction

Everything is politics, from what we eat to what we drink, from what society deems acceptable behavior to what it considers a criminal offence, from who we interact with to how we interact with them. Politics decides if we are free or if we live as slaves in bondage.

Politics determines what our children are taught in school, how we treat the ecosystem, what theories scientists investigate, how art is perceived (video), what version of history we recall, and how the future will remember us.

In essence, politics governs our thoughts, our understanding of reality, and how we and our society evolve. It is, therefore, essential that we participate in the political process, may it be through demonstrations, whistleblowing, elections, activism, disobedience or a myriad of other forms of direct action, or may it be through simple analysis so that we have a full understanding of what is being done in our name.… Read the rest

Claims Of An Alien Face On Mexico’s Popocatepetl Volcano

alien face

Majestic and mysterious Popocatepetl has been beset by UFO-related claims for several years. Now locals claim that a humanoid face has appeared on the volcanic mountain’s side, presumably a beacon for the spacecrafts hidden within. Brazil Weird News writes:

Locals claim that this petroglyph isn’t like other similar ancient monuments in the region but, appeared suddenly years ago.

The Popocatepetl volcano has attracted the attention of the media since it has suffered violent eruptions between April and May 2012 and in October and November of that same year. In the last three months the Popocatepetl has showed intense activity projecting in atmosphere thick smoke columns and clouds of volcanic dust.

monument29n-3-webLose 3d6 Sanity, Oklahoma City.

A group of very dedicated pranksters (or cultists, or both) took their love for H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos to the extreme this week when they installed a large monument to chaos god Azathoth in front of Oklahoma City’s Paseo Grill. The granite monument is three feet tall and is adorned with a bronze plaque upon which is inscribed “In the Year of Our Lord 2012 Creer Pipi claimed this land for Azathoth.”

Media Roots Radio – Obama’s Syrian War

On the latest edition of Media Roots Radio, Abby and Robbie Martin discuss how a new war against Syria seems all but inevitable.

They talk about the eerily similar establishment rhetoric between the Iraq war buildup and today’s Syria war mongering – specifically the potential unilateral US military action in defiance of the UN, the ‘humanitarian’ justification and the scare tactics of ‘chemical weapons’. A recent speech by Secretary of State, John Kerry, marked a distinct turning point in the ferocity of the Syria rhetoric, which is dissected by Robbie and Abby in its entirety.
