Via NPR:

Federal prosecutors are being told by Attorney General Eric Holder to focus on cartels, criminal enterprises and those who sell the drug to children, not on casual marijuana users, a Justice Department official tells NPR’s Carrie Johnson.

Holder today informed the governors of Washington and Colorado — two states that recently legalized the sale of marijuana for personal use — about the new guidelines for prosecutors, the official adds.

Bu the new guidelines will apply to all states, not just Washington, Colorado and those where “medical marijuana” is legal.

“Based on assurances that those states will impose an appropriately strict regulatory system, the Department has informed the governors of both states that it is deferring its right to challenge their legalization laws at this time,” .

  1. The Feds weren’t focusing on individual users to begin with unless they were interested in them for things other than pot.

How have they been prosecuting marijuana dispensaries, growers, etc.? How have they been pressuring landlords to get rid of medical marijuana dispensaries? As “criminal” operations.

I don’t see a change here. A medical marijuana card or living in a state that has legalized recreational marijuana use isn’t that useful if the Obama Administration has ignored the will of the people to ensure that nobody can buy it.

Too bad. I guess we’re supposed to celebrate this and talk about important news like Miley Cyrus offending the “get off my lawn” crowd and not notice the Obama Admin is planning war in Syria whether we like it or not.

Excellent comment, so I don’t want to trivialize, but:

      ” . . . the “get off my lawn” crowd . . . ”

      That pleased me mightily.

Well, shit, looks like I was right: by the end of his term, Barack Obama is going to advocate for total legalization, just the hypocrites that came before him.

They will not attack Syria and this is the extra little kicker to keep the sheeple distracted while the Bummer takes away your guns. Just speculatin’..

  4. Yeah, whatever. Hopefully this is a move in the right direction, but I do not trust anything those evil rat fucks say.
They said they would not go after people in states where medical cannabis had been approved, but they did.
I suspect the will find some way to attack, criminalize and feed to the prison machine anyone involved with cannabis that they can.
