Christian School Destroys $20,000 in Literature Because of ‘Satanic’ Peace Symbol

peacesymbol.comFunny: I had assumed that this school would be somewhere in Mississippi, not the Netherlands.

Via Raw Story:

The Dutch daily newspaper Trouw reported this week that for years, the Pieter Zandt Protestant reformatory school has allowed students a say in creating a “diary” that includes a calendar, tips, jokes and Bible scripture. But the strict school does not allow any items that are considered to be debauchery — like pop music, movie stars, fashion and cartoons.

But this year’s project went awry when parents began to complain that one of the students on the cover of the diary was wearing a T-shirt with a peace symbol, which they considered to be linked to the “Antichrist.”

School board chairman Johan Van Puten looked into the history of the peace sign and found that some conservatives and fundamentalist Christians in the 1970s had claimed that it was an anti-Christian symbol.

 Keep reading, Satanic Hippy.

So,the cross is a war symbol? Something the Romans used for terrorism?

  • Anarchy Pony

Hmm, the symbol of combined semaphore letters N and D standing for nuclear disarmament is satanic? Who knew?

If the world doesn’t end, Jesus won’t come back.

I came here to post that tidbit! I’m glad it was already here! Most people don’t realize that it isn’t technically a peace sign, it is a sign for an action that will bring peace. Semantics for SURE, but important one at that. That simple is for nuclear disarmament and NO OTHER form of peace. I’m sure those who created it were for all forms of peace, but that wasn’t the intent of the symbol :)

Pax-Romana, they love the dove and the olive branch but Jupiter… not so much eh?

This shouldn’t be too surprising. The Netherlands are more than just Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The nation has a long history of conservative Christian traditions. Anabaptists and Hutterites come to mind, right away. There are still enclaves of these groups of religious people in rural Holland. That said, I’d take the Netherlands over much of the Midwestern USA.

If you drive through there make sure all your bumper stickers are magnetic. Just swap out your peace sign for a yellow ribbon and hit the long skinny petal.

So this school can only have stuff that no Christians in history have ever objected to?

    This is certainly religious idiocy…

But Fairfax County, Virginia recently destroyed 250,000 books out of sheer stupidity. They didn’t even have the excuse of religion.

    Just pure old-fashioned stupid.

    you can tell they’re Christians
they didn’t bother checking what Jebus said about it:
blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of god
    and keep their $20K

Because Satan hates nuclear war. Got it.

Think about it. If you’re supposed to dominate and lay waste to the world. You don’t want to get here and find out we beat you to the punch on the whole obliteration angle.

this shows the danger of fundamentalism and it’s apocalyptic nature. People waiting for an imaginary rapture are not interested in world peace, it conflicts with their fear and hate based religions that eagerly await the destruction of their enemies.
