I really really like this. Not only is it visually beautiful and well done, but it both carries a literal story and a huge amount of metaphor. The male wants to fight “against time”, he wants the world the way it used to be before the seas rose so high, so he collects clocks, old ones from under the sea, to restore them, as if he could turn back time. This wreck of a car as the antagonist seems to be a reference to global warming as having caused all this calamity. And then he literally needs to race against time to rescue the girl. And also at first he found the girl’s cheap plastic clock as a worthless thing, but later sacrifices many of the clocks he’s collected to save her life, which I think is metaphor for fatherhood. The time you sacrifice to keep a child alive, and now her clock is among his other cherished “times.”
