Screen Shot 2013-10-25 at 10.54.27 AMJust what is Halal sex, you may well ask. Reuters explains:

A Turkish entrepreneur has opened what he says is the country’s first online sex shop for Muslims, selling everything from lubricants to herbal aphrodisiacs and offering advice on how to have “halal” sex.

Haluk Murat Demirel, 38, said he had been inspired to launch the site (www.bayan.helalsexshop.com) by friends who wanted sex advice and products but found the content on other websites and in specialist stores too explicit.

“Online sex shops usually have pornographic pictures, which makes Muslims uncomfortable. We don’t sell vibrators for example, because they are not approved by Islam,” Demirel said.

Sexual mores provoke frequent debate in the majority Muslim but constitutionally secular country. There are relatively few sex shops, even in major cities, although in parts of Istanbul those that do exist advertise themselves with neon signs…

So what would “halal sex” be exactly? Does it involve a burqa with a special hole in it?

    • jnana

yer mixin it up w/ kosher sex.

      • DeepCough

You’re right: Moslems prefer to poke the hole in the hijab.

        • oneironauticus

The hijab is the head scarf. Are they having ear-sex?

          • Calypso_1

Well, the prohibition against pork is easy enough to understand.

  • BuzzCoastin

sexual mores differ from region to region
in China pornography is illegal, but they also have
sex shops (legal) & hookers (illegal)

in Thailand porn & sex shops are illegal
but prostitution (illegal) is widely available and open

in Der Homeland, sex shops are legal (mostly)
sex is used widely to promote consumer products
    & porn is major industry
but prostitution is illegal & prudishness is popular public stance

    in almost every culture
there is a schizophrenic relationship with sex
the very thing that gave us life

    • jnana

prudishness is popular? have you watched popular American tv/movies/music videos lately?

      • BuzzCoastin

        right,
        porn TV shows & commercials
        especially the commercials
but a publicly held personal prudishness
        hence the schizophrenia

        • jnana

          oh, I gotchya.
my experience, though, is most people are barely prude. particularly the progressive types and non-religious who are hardly a minority anymore.

          • BuzzCoastin

I’ve been AWOL from aMerkin Kulture for over a decade now
            so maybe things have changed
but when I last checked it was impolite to discuss
sex, politics or religion in public
            and even the most perverse
usually cover their perversion with a righteous indignation
(Jimm Bakkker, Jimmy Swineheart, most gay politicians etc)
            and
YouTube will take down a vid with merely a hint of sex
            as will Fakebook et al

          • jnana

perhaps that’s true amongst those in the middle and upper classes, the rural and suburban, and for the deeply religious. but amongst the lower class, students, urban classes, and relatively non-religious I think sex is quite open

I wonder if they are into bondage? I know there was that article about the Fifty Shades of Grey being popular in Gitmo.
