Rolling Stone reports that musician Lou Reed has died at age 71:

With the Velvet Underground in the late Sixties, Reed fused street-level urgency with elements of European avant-garde music, marrying beauty and noise, while bringing a whole new lyrical honesty to rock & roll poetry. As a restlessly inventive solo artist, from the Seventies into the 2010s, he was chameleonic, thorny and unpredictable, challenging his fans at every turn. I hesitated on the comment, since I knew someone would be…but it had to be done, damn it. If it hadn’t been me, it would have been someone else.

I will be listening to “Perfect Day”, since I really do like that song…

EDIT: okay, started listening to Metal Machine Music…interesting.

And it’s not like we could help
But there wasn’t nothing no one could do
And if there was, man, you know I would have been the first
But when someone turns that blue
    Well, it’s a universal truth
And then you just know that bitch will never fuck again
